Years of drinking - you have his life history now?

You seem to have made lots of snap judgements without knowing any facts. It's no wonder they've ignored your complaint.
What facts did they know about his health when they treated him like that?

I'm sure they got him to fill in a health questionnaire ...In between struggling with him and answering your pointless questions ( sorry but you weren't helping were you) Did it occur to you you were impeding them doing their job? And that someone could have got hit while you were interfering?
You do realise someone either goes back in willingly or they get arrested?

Struggling with a frail old man that could barely keep on his feet. There was enough of them surrounding him for a few of them to answer customers questions. If they didn't want to answer customer questions, and I wasn't the only one, they should have taken him to the back.

I'm struggling with your descriptions though. In your initial post you say there was a commotion ( from this ' frail old man' ).and he was " making a racket". Doesn't sound so frail.
Frail old people can still lash out.
How would you have arrested this aggressive drunk stumbling frail man who didn't want to go back into the shop? Do you think you could have talked nicely to him?

Oh frail people can't shout, I will have to remember that.

Robert Mugabe is old, probably frail, but is still a murderous despot. Should the rest of the world cut him some slack now he is in his eighties?

The majority of the men accused of the multi-million pound robbery in Hatton Garden are of pensionable age. Should they be let off with a slap on the wrist and a few hours of community service?

Do you really think that this is the first time this frail, old man has stolen? Would you have felt, and reacted, in the same way if the shoplifter was a drunken teen?

He was an elderly man and he could have done himself some serious damage the way they were treating him. Same could be said of a drunken youth. Best to seat both in a chair don't you think?

Asking questions about what? Sometimes people need to learn to mind their own business.

Getting a chair for shoplifters. What next? Asking if they want a cup of tea?

He lost all rights to decent treatment when he decided to shoplift.
Maybe being made a spectacle of will put him or others off in the future. And no, I don't give a toss that he was old/ill/drunk. Tough.

Yeah, I agree. He should have been stoned to death. That would've taught him.
