Thanks Bob, my dad is proper old style mse! He wouldn't ever pay someone to do something he could do, make do & mend, use up, the only time he'd get someone in to do something is a plumber if he can't fix it or someone to do the gas certificates on the rental houses. He's a total star. Glad that your ds is better now. Hope you enjoyed your lunch.
Been a nice weekend having the family over etc but everyone's gone now and its nice to be just us home
I've switched kids bedding back to the winter duvets, got their winter coats out and put their summer clothes away. Got ds2 to try on all his long sleeved tops to see what still fits, most of them do, just 4 to go in the charity shop bag. Also got 4 pairs of trousers out that ds2 is now tall enough to wear (hand me downs from his brother)
Cwtched up watching Avengers film that ds was given for his birthday.
Tomorrow will be spent getting the house straight again after the weekend and looking into switching current accounts to make the most of the introductory offers.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend all.0 -
Hi all,
Quick check-in, then must finish last couple of 'Sunday jobs' before eating the nice dinner mr f is making & putting my feet up. Another day of fab sunshine. Here's today's small money saving things:
*Did laundry overnight on cheap tariff & pegged out to line-dry. Another load going in washer for tonight. It's half the price of the daytime tariff (Economy 7).
*Packed a picnic to take on our trip out to avoid buying lunch in cafe.
*We did have coffee & shared a warm scone, but mr f treated me, so my purse didn't even need to come out :-)
*Was not tempted in gift shops or book shop. Well, I was, but I didn't succumb.
*Picked runner beans, pulled a few leeks.
*Gathered windfall apples & turned them into apple sauce to go with tonight's dinner.
*Prepped & brined all the veg ready for making piccalilly tomorrow.
*Listed 7 items on ebay.
*Read energy meters & add this week's useage data to my stats.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
That's it for today. Everywhere I look in the house & garden at the moment, I see about 6 jobs! This coming week, I have no meetings, no commitments, so am intending to do some serious catching up. If you do not detect impressive levels of industry from my daily posts, feel free to deliver a verbal kick up the bum!
Cheers all,

Ok that's all I need to do :T nothing earth shattering - either good or bad! Hope everyone has had a good week. Ziggy sorry to hear you are feeling low at the moment x
Hi guys seems like it's been a busy, productive and happy weekend for most :T ally sorry to hear you had some bad news but glad to hear you're not letting it get to you x
lego mum hope your ds had a lovely birthday
Bob hope you've got some rest. I keep expecting not to see you and then here you are!
feels weird not being on the thread daily and obviously lots of things have happened over the week I was away. Maria what's happening in Jan?
done well with my list. Started the garden - will be an ongoing project as hard to get blocks of time to do it and lots to do. Very pleased to see my big tomatoes are ripening
Did loads of putting washing away and some ironing.
Decided to have carrots with dinner (rather than what I wanted!) using the carrots given to us by oh's dm before they went off to Brasil.
Just need to vacuum downstairs floors and wash when dgd goes to bed and list fleabay items,
Been such lovely weather over the weekend :T makes it so easy to just go for a walk for entertainment. Yesterday we went to the beach and threw stones in the water and today we went to the park then for a walk through the marshes along the river. Dgd rode her bike :T now just making veg and using meat that defrosted when the freezer door was left open on Friday...
Ooooo just had a text from my bff and she got us £18.50 refunded from a pool club we went to in Ibiza. The weather was tipping it down so there were only about 10 people there! - but that's no one's fault so we didn't mind that however the staff were really rude and closed the event 1 1/2 before it was due to close. We wouldn't have minded but it was literally out of no where we were told to go, no time to finish our drinks and were hassled out of there!DF as at 30/12/16

[STRIKE]Cook some pie meat that I got out of the freezer for tomorrow (need the mushrooms to make this go further) using SC for fuel economy
[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]If it is nice later, plant the rest of the pansies I bought yesterday in the front garden pots

[STRIKE]Put prepared hyacinths in vases in the dark cupboard (I love growing these[/STRIKE]
)

Hoover stairs Not done this yet
I am sure there is more, but I can't think of it at the moment. Hope everyone has a good day
I helped DD2 with a car boot sale this morning. It was freezing!
Apart from that I have finished off most of the outstanding jobs from yesterday, washed a couple of loads must get the last one in shortly and put on the airer to finish drying) and made a meat pie, apple pie and a quiche shell. I have left over mashed potato from dinner, and will mix this with a small tin of tuna, a few capers and some chopped parsley and make fish cakes. Won't need to cook much else this week
Ally hope you are ok : (0 -
Thanks for your kind words, Jedis.
I started the day feeling 95%
dismal and managed to get it down to about 40% dismal
by lunchtime. So that was a huge improvement. I just need to persist with the relaxation and stress management Apps til my mind settles. Work went well.
Anyway, not much MSEing today:
* Watching DVD from the cupboard tonight.
* Turned the iron off for the last item.
* OH used one saucepan to cook all the veg.
* Did the SIM shuffle*.
Tomorrow's another day, we'll see what it brings.
SIM card shuffle:
*Found a really creative solution to our 15MB per month broadband account problem that had been bugging us for months. We never have enough data each month but this is the only company that can supply us as we can't have a line to our property as we live in Timbuktu so our internet comes through a mobile Wifi Dongle device with a SIM card in it. We are already on the package with the largest amount of data so we can't pay more for more data. Local library is miles away. And if we run the internet through our mobiles we'll be broke. Solution: Take out a second SIM card only contract that'll give us 10MB per month with the same company. Then, 60% of the way through the month, take the 15MB/month SIM card out of the device and insert the 10MB/month SIM card. Thus we now have 25MB per month. (We're still paying less for these two contracts than most people pay for unlimited broadband because I haggled.)Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -
Well we didnt go shopping in the end. But we really do need to choose some kitchen tiles soon. This is OK because the money is already set aside to finish the kitchen.
Got a lot of housework done, in between reading my new library book. Lots of washing done and dried outside, looks showery for the next couple of days. Oh and I did some baking and made stew and dumplings for tea. My teenagers just never stop eating.
One bid on my e-bay listings - yay!
Ally great solution, sometimes living in the middle of nowhere is a pain isnt it?0 -
Late check in before I try and sleep...
Back to work for another full week tomorrow... I don't feel like itcrazy_cat_lady wrote: »
List for today
[STRIKE]:D Get dh to do his share of the housework as he's off work[/STRIKE]Result - dishes washed when I got home
[STRIKE][STRIKE]:D tutoring[/STRIKE][/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:D load of washing[/STRIKE] 2 actually
[STRIKE]:D leave the heating off[/STRIKE] Brrrr
[STRIKE]:D complete some surveys[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:D visit my mam and get a free feed, and have a look at this stuff to see if it's worth selling.[/STRIKE] I need to do some research here. It's lots of good crockery, glassware and ornaments. Not my area of expertise. At the moment I have 5 boxes of stuff to look through as and when I get time. There's also costume jewellery, a hideous clock and a few random collectable coins. I don't really know where to start (apart from claiming a ring and a couple of ornaments I fell in love with), so will leave it until I have a little more time - or ask hubby to take it on as a hobby while he's off
Finish marking controlled assessments Not quite, but only 7 more to go
[STRIKE]:D take dd to her tumble class[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:D nsd[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:D no batch cooking as the freezer and fridge are full[/STRIKE]
but only 3 more weeks until half term. Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

Take deep breathes....
I often find that I don't feel like it but once I'm there I'm ok. My expectations often don't match reality.
