Good Morning everyone. Didn't manage to get on yesterday. Bob, I use blackboard paint at work on various things to promote various offers etc Re the pears, I like covering the skin with a thin crumble and baking it whole in the oven served with very thick cream, yummy. Re: Netflicks, just been watching a couple of films but need to find a new series to watch now.
Had a bust up with someone at work yesterday :-| Pretty bad, but I was in the right. It was kind of over nothing but there's been a lot of things building up over the last few months (or things I've been letting slide) I never fall out with anyone as well :-D
Picked up every needed for 2 x birthday parties my girls are going to this weekend. Also got my b-I-l present & Card. Two more presents to get for Nephew's. Been an expensive week! Hopefully I will be able to transfer £100 leftover money from this week so not too bad, will have a crunch later and check ive accounted for everything.
Emptied small penny jar yesterday and paid in £15.01 into holiday fund yesterday. Total of £215.01 now.
Right better get the girls in their frozen dresses and ready for the party.

Has anyone here ever done a car boot sale? My mam has asked me if I want to do one to sell the stuff from her mother in law's house. I've never even thought about doing a car boot fair and don't know where to start... Any pointers or advice appreciated.
Thanks.
I used to do them. Advice:
* Take lots of wee coins for change.
* If you go to a big car boot where there are traders they may approach your car as you drive in and are setting up calling "Any jewellery?" "Any old records?" Ignore them. Tell them to come back when you're ready to sell.
* Some cheeky folk may try to rummage through your car boot as you are setting up. Keep your phone and wallet locked in your glove box.
* Some car boots want to see your ID before they sell you a pitch. Take some with you.
* On our last car boot we put a "free to a good home" sign out on all the junk we wanted to get rid of. Saved us a trip to the charity shop/dump.

Oh. I forgot about the two cheques that I wrote for school last week, one has just gone through the bank. I write so few cheques that I forgot to enter them on the spreadsheet. Need to find an extra £43 in the budget.
Jojo it sounds like you put your girls clothes in the freezer before they wear them!!! Hope they enjoy the party.0 -
Good afternoon everyone
Thanks for the start Jono. Impressive food wombling from OH there. How did that come about? My husband regularly brings home fruit as they have a ridiculous amount for their free fruit Friday and it gets left. I don't think we've bought any in months
we also get the occasional 4 pinter of milk if there is a lot in surplus. It's not strictly kosha but it only goes off and has to be thrown at work otherwise. So no guilt here.
Ally- really sorry you have had dramas. Here's hoping things improve very soon.
Zig -same to you. I'm very sorry you have hit a bad patch. Sounds like the situation with your friend has contributed.
CCL - not surprised you are tired with all going on..
Determined - welcome 'home' I bet you had fun. Was DGD good for your OH?
JoJo- sorry to hear about the bust up. But they had it coming by the sounds of it?
Yorkshire - hate it when that happens with money and unexpected forgotten things.
Datelex - have you got a lot of points saved?
Dawn- home made pies - yum!
MinnieMouseMummy- nice to see you've joined the others on this thread who blog. Interesting to read about your life.
LegoMum- I can imagine why you feel emotional. Birthdays are always a bit bitter sweet aren't they. Hope your ds enjoys it
So far today we have used up bread at breakfast and lunch, from stuff I'd brought back from the shop. Had a lovely rustic loaf which I'd done home made bruchettas with as the base for our home made burgers last night. Then used up the rest for toast and jam this morning. At lunch we've all had lovely seeded wholemeal and tuna mayo. It's very satisfying to use something up isn't it.
I spent £1 of roadkill on 2 50p mozzarella balls from Mr S which means I should have everything I need to do a home made lasagne for dinner. And as it was roadkill I'm keeping my NSD too.
Found 5p on the road. Doing well this month
Washing is out on the line. Should dry ok.
And a friend has just invited us for a roast tommorow. Which means no dinner to pay for either. And it will be really nice to go and relax at her place which is walkable.
Right well. I am doing nothing for the rest of the afternoon. What a novelty!

Morning all,
Sorry to hear some of our number are feeling down and/or poorly. Take care of yourselves. Tomorrow is another day.
I am waking early at the moment. Jumped out of bed & discovered I'd got Doing-stuff-itis. We were in Aldi by half past eight & we're going to spend this afternoon clearing jobs around the house which have been waiting for too long. Anyway, today's money saving:
*October's groceries, week 1. Budget = £50. Actual spend = £49. Hence £1 PAD'd across to the Car Fund. Was pleased with that spend (across Aldi, Waitrose & local market, as it also included stuff for making my piccalilli & pickled onions, a few treats for later int the month & ac ouple of Christmas baking ingredients).
*Parked on outskirts of town for free & walked in, rather than paying for car park.
*Free coffees in Waitrose & did not get tempted by cakes, so double result. Wallet & waist!
*Entered competition.
*Checked online banking to see if cheque for Mum's shopping & craft order had appeared. It had, so I paid it straight across to my credit card (which I used solely to bump up my points total).
*Used the last of an eyeshadow first thing & really enjoyed choosing a new one. Used my Beauty Card points (Superdrug) to get £1 off. The old me used to have a drawer full of such thing, often pricey brands, only half used. What a waste of money & v un-green too, because of plastic going to landfill when I hadn't even bothered using all of the product. Of course, many people would say this isn't an essential purchase at all, & it isn't, but as someone who doesn't generally even hang the washing out without mascara on, make-up is something I'll always want to buy, but now enjoy being more sensible about.
*Decanted own brand bubble bath (purple) into pretty old glass decanter. Looks really nice in the bathroom, but it's El Cheapo.
*Did a few surveys. Didn't really intend to, but then discovered that Toluna had added about 6000 points overnight, so felt motivated.
Ok, back to the job list.

Oh dear, now look, it's me again.....already.
I was typing my post while simultaneously on the phone to my Mum & Dad so forgot some of my money saving list:
*mr f has just put up new curtain pole & curtains in my HQ (home office, but with armchair & piano). Pole & curtains combined £38. That is all I intend to spend on giving this room a bit of a makeover. I'll achieve a new look by swapping cushions, finding a throw for the armchair & bringing some different plants/ornaments in. The new curtains weren't a whim either, but a necessity as the broken blind had finally given up & could no longer be raised. It not only looked rubbish, but with winter coming, I'd have been wasting electricity having the light on in daytime.
*Paid another 50p into my sealed pot.
*Have nobbled mr f (this was an 11 out of 10 on the nobbling front) to tackle the tech graveyard which has built up in the guest bedroom, particularly with a view to whether any of it could be sold. I may have nearly persuaded him to advertise a spare home cinema amp in the local paper. That's a start.
*Look out a few more knitting mags for listing on ebay to make use of some of the 100 free listings we've been sent.
*Pick up more windfall pears. This is now a daily job. The vast basket full in the kitchen starting to ripen though. Ate a beautiful juicy one earlier. Didn't buy much fruit today as will need to eat pears until they are coming out of our ears.
*Pick a couple of peppers & jalopenos for tonight's chilli.
*Not my cooking night tonight, so will be entertaining myself for free with a recorded episode of 'Resistance', my knitting & library book.
*Make a picnic to take with us tomorrow. We're going out to a big local NT place & will be lured by lunches in the cafe if we don't plan ahead. I don't mind buying a coffee, but that's as much as I'm intending my purse to be putting in an appearance.
Oh.....& whoever asked about car boot sales? Yes, I've done them. They can be a useful way of shifting large amounts of stuff. Ally's advice is sound, as usual. I would add that in my experience, there are many people attending these things who want something for nothing. We all like a bargain, & I've no problem with hagglers, but there's haggling & there's taking the p*ss. I can remember saying to one bloke who tried to give us £5 for a whole load of DVD box sets which were very reasonably priced, that if we wanted to give our stuff away, we'd be standing on street corners handing it out for free. He then appealed to mr f & I said we have an equal relationship & if I've already told someone the price isn't changing, then that's the answer! Two mins later someone else tried to get my nice vintage coffee table for £4 while the people next to us were struggling to make a woman understand why 20p was not a fair offer for a very good set of saucepans!! So, you can clear a lot of stuff, make some useful cash, but be prepared to be assertive. You can always knock everything down to pence at the end if you'd rather not take it home.
That's it from me now. Coffee & back to the job list. Can I face the Under-bed storage box? With a caffiene top-up, I reckon I can!
Cheers,

Thanks for starting Jonno
Sorry you're both feeling meh Ziggy and Ally
Crazy Cat Lady I'm a Sunderland supporter too...
Advice re. car boots - keep your cool when people crowd around your car like something out of Dawn of the Dead when you pull up, then start touching stuff as you're trying to set up. I nearly lamped someone last time I did one! That aside it's worth doing as you can make a tidy packet.
I had a lovely night with my friend last night, nice food with 30% off voucher and Caitlin Moran was fab. Also saw that outdoorsy man who did Strictly last year with Ola, Steve something? He was signing books in the book tent looking very tanned. I resisted the urge to buy anymore books.
NSD today. Not sure about tomorrow as we're meeting the wedding photographer so not sure if we have to pay a deposit - it'll come out of the wedding fund anyway. We're going to a vintage wedding fayre tomorrow afternoon too!
My mam has contributed to our wedding pot which is very appreciated so I'll transfer that when it clears.
All meals from stores. Beef stroganoff tonight
Take poochy for a long walk up the hill this afternoon. She goes back to my ex tomorrow
Letting hair dry naturally today
FPL and surveys to do
Banking checked. Spending diary to update from last night.
I need to contact Boots.com as they haven't applied £10 worth of points to my advantage card after I ordered some Christmas presents earlier in the week. I've prepped mam that we can only afford to do a one person one present policy this year. Hope she sticks to it too!

We throw our small change in a big jar in the wardrobe and it hasnt been emptied for a very long time. I have just sorted and bagged £45 in change and there is easily the same amount still left in there. I also found £3.50 in 50ps which have gone in my purse!
8 things listed on ebay and a bag of less saleable things to go to the charity shop.
Going to walk the dog now as the sun has just broken though. Oh and there is a bit more washing to hang out.0
