Have a guess:
[ ] 2% reduction in global warming
[ ] Reduction of £1 billion in welfare spending
[ ] Catch a certain number of shoplifters
Go on, you know you can do it if you try.
And you had the sheer audacity to have a dig at me about posts, Pot, kettle black springs to mind here.0 -

Not the same thing at all.
The post I responded to here was a passive aggressive attempt to show the questionee in a bad light by asking a stupid question that can have only one possible answer.
Whereas the post of yours that I responded to was one in a series you made, where you clearly demonstrated that you did not know what you were talking about, because you did not seem to understand the importance of intent. To which you responded with an assertion that other people (who did understand that importance) were stupid. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Hi
Just a quick update - had a phone call from CEO's office yesterday to say they are still carrying out interviews with the people involved...and to expect a phone call today.
Sounds like it'll just be a case of "we've not done anything wrong" - but I'll update later if I can.

I thought of this thread today whilst shopping as I shoplifted without intent.
I was looking for a new iron and ironing board today in Wilko; I noticed they also sold vauum bags for miele and picked a pack up. I decided to check the prices in Sainsburys before buying so went for a nosey. The prices were higher so I returned to Wilko, only when I went to pick up the board that I noticed I was still clutching the vacuum bags! I had walked out and then returned with them without realising!
It is easy to walk out with items I hope the OP gets a resolution. I would hate to be put in the same situation. But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more0 -
Okay here's what has happened........
Had a phone call at lunchtime today from CEO's office.
Apologies offered - apparently it was all a "huge misunderstanding" which was dealt with very very badly (their words not mine)
My Clubcard will be returned to myself - I am not barred from the store.
The store manager is going to contact myself next week when he returns from holidays.
Re-training of all the staff involved took place last week to ensure that this never happens again.
I asked had the cctv evidence been viewed by those investigating this incident to confirm my version of events and..........wait for this...........it has gone missing and is not available !!
Just to be clear - that's BOTH lots of cctv - the one from the shopfloor and the one from the private area where I was held - BOTH not available/missing.
So full marks to Tesco for actually taking my complaint seriously enough to actually investigate it properly - and also for accepting my apologies.
To all those that said "your wasting your time and are lucky they didn't prosecute" - I believed at all points that what I did, whilst foolish, was NOT illegal - the security guy should NOT HAVE LIED to the Police and embelished his story to make me appear guilty. There was absolutely no INTENT to steal anything.
I believe that if a "vulnerable" person would have been in the same position as myself maybe elderly, learning difficulties etc then maybe they would have accepted the Police caution - on the spot fine etc just to get out of there........which I feel is not acceptable.
I will update again next week.............

I'm intrigued what sort of investigation they did if they have lost the CCTV footage. Without that the only witness they have are the people who think you are a thief so I am unsure how extensive this investigation was!
It sounds like they've just let you off as its easier to do that than anything else. I also assume you mentioned your condition in your complaint (as an excuse for taking the item without paying) so they probably wanted to be a bit careful,
What I would say is surprising is that when you complain to Tesco about anything they send you a £5 gift card at the very least. The fact they don't seem to have offered any gift card in compensation does seem to suggest they are not totally sure you are innocent but are giving you the benefit of the doubt due to your complaint to the CEO's office and the fact you have a medical condition.0 -
Im with Jack Reacher on this. No chance at all that the cctv is missing. They have not prosecuted because of the cost so its now a matter of how to placate you and get your complaint off their back.0

Congratulations on getting a result.
It's clear that the correct procedures were not followed and Tesco, to their credit, not being able to verify that they had been, have done the decent thing and accepted your version of the story.
I'm sure that they, as well an anyone else with an IQ struggling into double figures will realise that if the video evidence had shown what security claimed to have seen, it would not have mysteriously vanished.
Although it would not stand up in a court of law, only an utter buffoon would not make the obvious inference as to who had cause the tapes to disappear.
Tesco may well have requested assistance from the police officer who viewed the tapes who would have backed up your version of events.I asked had the cctv evidence been viewed by those investigating this incident to confirm my version of events and..........wait for this...........it has gone missing and is not available !!
Just to be clear - that's BOTH lots of cctv - the one from the shopfloor and the one from the private area where I was held - BOTH not available/missing.
Not surprising, really. It's fairly obvious that security fouled up royally in this instance; and, who has access to the security videotapes? Well, security!
Given that Tesco have acted very reasonably and the fault, in this instance, seems to have been with an outside contractor, I hope you will not be boycotting them in the future.0 -
They have not prosecuted because of the cost
The police declined to put the matter before the CPS because they saw no compelling evidence of intent to shoplift. It had absolutely nothing to do with cost.so its now a matter of how to placate you and get your complaint off their back.
You're living in cloud cuckoo land. Since when do companies who believe they are dealing with a shoplifter worry about placating them?0 -
JR did not say that, or anything like it.
You have to understand the purpose of a full stop.....
The two statements are unrelated as they are separated by one.
"I'm with Jack Reacher on this"
"No chance at all that the cctv is missing".
You are attempting to start a straw man argument by inferring that the poster has posted
"I'm with Jack Reacher on this no chance that the CCTV is missing".
This is not what they posted (or indeed what I posted).
Therefore you should really apologise to them (unless of course you are trolling in which case carry on)
