Penny-Wise wrote:A couple of ideas I have heard are to keep them in separate rooms for the first few days and let your older cats get used to the smell of the new ones being in the house and visa versa (we did this when introducing Kaya to our two girls). You can let them sniff at each other through an ajar door and when you think it will be ok you can let them meet properly.
I have heard that smearing them with mackerel/pilchard juice and then feeding them all mackerel/pilchards might get them to start cleaning each other and therefore liking each other better (I’ve not tried this one)
We used this method when we got the weenies, and our big boys were not impressed at it at all. We had them in the spare room, with some clear plastic taped to the door, so they could see/smell each other but not touch. The large cages you get for dog travel are good too I believe if you can borrow one for a short time. Just put them in when you want a bit of introduction time, not all the time.
We then put them in a room together where the big boys could get away if they wanted too.It only took a couple of weeks. I think we got that tip from the RSPCA kitten book - maybe their website or the Cats Protection site will be able to help?
Maybe just rubbing them with something not as strong as this would work?
Whoops, meant that the big boys were not impressed with new family members! Also the littlies were in the spare room. They all responded well to this method.

Reading through the thread I went off my original idea of "Mrs Slocombe", somebody suggested "Dylan", that's pretty hippieish after Bob Dylan.
Or maybe "Geldof", the scabbiest Bob I can think of.Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.0 -
bettykitten wrote:Mekon is a wonderful name - I named my kitten that and I've never heard any other cat called it. It runs from the tongue great! :rotfl:
The mekons are a band I liked in my younger days and had a single called "Where were you ?", pretty apt for a cat.
What was your reason for the name ?

Bob's a great name. I had a cat who had been called Bobcat as a tiny kitten. He was very handsome, so I changed it to the more formal Robert. I think he prefered this! One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other0

My Cat was called Bob when I got him as a kitten from the Cats Protection League but I didn/t think it suited him..and was going to change it to Henry . However don/t think that suited him either....so when I told my Mum he came from Anfield in Liverpool she suggested Heskey...which I called him. Just a shame Emile Heskey left Liverpool at the end of that season but the name suits him.0
