Is there such thing as a tin opener?!

We have a cheap plastic-handled one. I find the best way is to put it horizontally on the can so you're cutting through the side of the can (removing the whole top) rather than vertically and removing the inside of the top.
Yes, I realise this probably leaves a sharp edge at the top of the can ... well DON'T TOUCH IT THEN!

I swear by the old fashioned type. I have always bought them from Wilkinson for about 45 pence and they last years.

I've had my Kenwood Electric one for around 9 years and it's still working perfectly.
It's this one:

Glad I'm not the only one!!
I do like the ring pull cans as they are much easier, however I begrudge paying more for something just because it has a different lid on it!! haha
I got my current one from the Range but I will have a look at the Brabantia next time I pop in there
Like the sound of the one on Amazon but it's quite pricey although having said that if it works in the long run will probabaly save money the amount we go through!!Read my diaryHere

I just use a "regular type of tin opener" with the big turning handle - and I picked one that looked a bit strong & beefy, with fat arms that you hold. Cost me about £4 from Asda 8 years ago and it's still going strong.0

Even ring pulls have their problems sometimes, that's when a tin opener comes on handy. We've had ours for 20 odd years with no problems, except some tins don't work with openers.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I mostly use a stab can opener which I have left at work, I seem to be the only one that can use it. I've had it about 40 years. I also have a butterfly one at home and I've just been given one that is hands free, I have only used it once and found it very slow but quite fascinating.0

The Range have them, as does Dunelm Mill if you have one of those near you!

I do have a friend who has issues with tin openers on certain tins only - usually one particular brand of tuna they use for their cats. So it depends on the tin sometimes. Worth bearing in mind if you are having issues with one type of tin.
Other than that we got one of those put it on top and press one button ones and it works most times.0
