Is there such thing as a tin opener?!

Is it just me or is EVERY SINGLE "tin opener" useless?!

I even got an electric one because I thought "maybe I'm just too weak?" but no that didn't work very well so after 18 months ended up in the bin!!

Doesn't matter where I buy these so called tin openers or how much I pay they DON'T WORK!!

Does anyone else have this problem?!

    Yes!

We must have tried pretty much everything on the market for years until in desperation I googled for a decent tin opener and found this one:

It's a bit expensive but worth every penny and more. Had it about 3 years and it's totally brilliant. The reviews say it all.

I have what I would class as a basic hand held tin opener, and use it about once a month...............it works for me, and I am left handed.

I hope you find something that suits you.

What ive found with horrible plastic ones that stop working after a week (gave up on the metal ones they just fall apart) if you just clasp the side on the can you can push it round the top and open the can in two twists.

I spent most of my life struggling to open tins with a basic tin opener. I could never get used to the new style ones but since finding a left handed basic tin opener life's been a breeze.

  • I got a plain metal ASDA Smart Price one for about 40p which has lasted ages, although there's some rust on it. I don't see it on the website at the moment though :(
It's always nice when you get a tin with a ring pull so you don't need an opener :D
When I worked for Greggs they used to use Heinz big cans of soup and the tin opener was always breaking as it was used so much, they bought MagiCan ones etc but they still broke quite quickly!

I have a traditional Probus "butterfly" can opener. The sort that's been made for decades. http://www.probusmayfair.co.uk/tools/openers.html

I wouldn't bother with any of the fancy modern ones as they stop working so quickly.

Even then, can opener blades do wear out eventually, so the can openers do need replacing every few years.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

I have a cheapo Tesco 50p one and it works fine. I don't use it much though as I try to buy tins with ring pulls.
