I leave mine in the boot of the car (all inside one bag) and take that around the shop with me in the trolley.
Why more people don't do that, I don't know....💙💛 💔0 -

I have a bag of bags, but I have bags in all of my handbags and coats as I don't want to carry my bag of bags everywhere. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
In your opinion. In mine, what is is ridiculous is imposing a charge which raises millions in VAT for the government which funds hospitals, schools, highways, the armed forces........ and a host of unspecified 'charities' raising money for good causes is unwelcome to you?. and inconveniences some people, with no convincing evidence that it will achieve anything other than allow naive people to believe they are somehow 'saving the planet ' - possibly the most facile slogan so far this century.
One thing is certain. We will never agree.

"Benefits: why there’s a charge
The scheme aims to reduce the use of single-use plastic carrier bags, and the litter associated with them, by encouraging people to re-use bags."
You keep trying to sound clever and well informed and continue to belittle people who don't agree with you but you've spent months sulking because you have to take a bag to the shops and pay for your bin liners.
If you insist on spending this much time on something surely you could find a more worthwhile crusade.0 -
I have for many years taken a thick, reusable bag each time I go shopping. There are several in my car and a draw full of them by the front door in case I walk. I am somewhat disconcerted by the fact that twice my bag has been stolen in my local store (Aldi), once from the trolley and once from the conveyor belt whilst I was talking to the checkout operator. A customer I served yesterday said she went to Waitrose the other day. Bought some raw meat and the cashier demanded she had to pay 5p for the bag
I said to the customer to complain to them and give a description of cashier as this isn't Waitrose customer service. Plus she may get a gift card. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

This is one where I think the law needs to be clearer. When I buy meat from Costco, there is a roll of plastic bags in case you want to bag the meat in case of leaks, this is the sort of bag I expect to get for free, not a carrier bag.0 -

The law is already perfectly clear. If you want a single use carrier bag for carrying only raw meat, then the seller can provide you with one if they want to. Equally, if they want to charge you for it, they are free to do so. There is no entitlement to a free carrier bag under any circumstances.0 -

I don't know how old you are, but presuming you're not young.
What did you use to do when you went shopping before we had throwaway plastic bags ?Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

If a produce bag has handles and is made from thin plastic, then it has the same legal status as the single use carrier bags provided at the checkout.
The key thing here is if the bag was only being used to carry raw meat, then it was then not technically a SUCB, and the shop did not have to charge for it. Equally, they were free to charge for it if they wanted to.
I agree though that this is poor customer service. I'd have asked to see the duty manager, and if he had insisted on charging I'd have left all my shopping on the checkout and gone elsewhere.0
