OK - I'll bite...
In what way are they a rip-off?
I suspect you are wasting your time. Someone who didn't know that Costa is owned by Whitbread is unlikely to have any idea of the levels of rent, business rates, or other overheads that shops in these high profile locations carry, so is unable to properly assess whether or not they are being ripped off.0 -
:T:T:T:T helpful comment
Maybe more people are concerned about the waste generated by carrier bags given out willy nilly, plus the enviromental implications(however much they are exaggerated they are)[/QUOTE
HEAR! HEAR!:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T
I'm still waiting for an apology (or at least a correction) from you for your post of 3rd November.
Or don't they have playschool smileys for that?0 -

Yes I do understand about rent business rates plus other details like an entertainment licenses, logistics etc.
For a basic cup of coffee with a lot of sugar in it and a bit of milk, to me they are expensive and a rip off. I don't think much of the 'added value' these overrated coffee houses project.
I used to work for the Odeon chain. So I know about overpriced products and 'atmospheres'.
And for the record I used to drink coffee but had to give it up.The more I live, the more I learn.
The more I learn, the more I grow.
The more I grow, the more I see.
The more I see, the more I know.
The more I know, the more I see,
How little I know.!!0 -

Well when you apologize to all the people you have insulted or accused of no knowledge about chicken contamination on this thread then you might just get one.
And because of the last line in your message, you will not get one yet.The more I live, the more I learn.

I quite like Costa, so I wouldn't say they are overrated.0 -

Graceless as well as clueless, then.
I'm still waiting for someone to explain why a professor at a leading US university, the Canadian Department of Health and the USA's Centers for Disease Prevention and Control don't know what they are talking about and we should believe a couple of anonymous know-it-alls on an Internet forum instead.0 -
If you buy a pre-wrapped raw chicken (a raw chicken in a tray with a plastic outer wrapper) does this mean you have to pay for a carrier bag.
Same question applies to any raw meat/fish product.
Also is there a minimum size for chargeable carrier bags? I ask because M&S do a small bag and a standard size plastic carrier bag and they charge 5p for either size.0 -

The law is a bit vague. The Governments website says that they don't need to charge for bags with uncooked meat in them. But it isn't clear. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/carrier-bag-charges-retailers-responsibilities#bags-you-dont-have-to-charge-for
However the bag then can only be free if you do not put anything into it. If you put your potatoes in the bag with the uncooked chicken, then you must pay 5p.
There doesn't seem to be any distinction on size. So they have to charge for the large bags and the small bags.0
