A couple of things i have learnt from this thread is that the petrol pumps click when your car is full (didnt no that i always get scared and just guess at the amount of money i spend whether the tank will be full or not!)
And dont give lifts to fat people cos this will use more of my petrol up! :rotfl: And i cant afford to be doing that now!
I've always wondered how long the orange light will flash before I conk out.... :rolleyes:Proud to have dealt with with my debts

The reason there is a click to tell you it is full is because fuel expands when warm so there needs to be expansion room if you go past that well its not advisable your imagination can work it out! So there is more room past the click and it does not leak anywhere!
That's what a fuel tank breather pipe is for. it lets fumes out when petrol expands.current debt as at 10/01/11- £12500

Nah, the fuel system's pressurised anyway - up to 1,000 x sea-level air pressure in fuel-injected cars. Fuel's not flammable in liquid form and pressure reduces the boiling point. It's fuel vapour which is highly flammable, which is why cars need an air/fuel mix.Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW Nerd #4910

mmm not to sure on that one but i know if you look in your car manual it will give you the miles you can get out of your car if the petrol light comes on so if you reset your speedometer when it happens you should be able to know. I think when it starts to flash thats bad and your car is telling you it can no longer run on fumes and needs feeding! :rotfl:LBM - April 2007Claimed back my bank charges from Natwest - £1196Halifax Credit Card Claiming £467.35 Rec £467.35!/Capital One Card Claiming - £523.92/Barclaycard Claiming - £403.58 Rec £403.58/MBNA Claiming - £584.37 Rec£584.37Proud to be dealing with my debtsUpdate: 2009 - Currently claiming £1900 from Natwest0

AFAIK the "click" comes when a certain pressure is reached - this is triggered by a small nozzle within the handle starting sucking petrol, rather than air (ie once it comes into contact with the rising fuel). BUT - once the click comes, the fuel continues to drain into the tank, fill up voids, air filters out etc - thus allowing you to fit more in.
I think I prefer Gemmzie's description. I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
