Filling the car up.........

I used to drive around virtually on empty all the time, but then I read that an empty tank is more likely to explode than a full one in an accident...I don't know if it's true (think it was in the Reader's Digest so seemed authentic) so now I always fill to the brim once I've got quarter of a tank left.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

When the thingy clicks it's full, anything past that and you are just wasting money because the tank is full and those extra drops of petrol just run of somewhere. (Cousin's a mechanic)
But where would the extra drops go?
If the nozzle's in the filler neck the fuel can only go into the tank?Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW Nerd #4910

I travel around 250 miles a week to get to and from work. I tend to fill up the tank completely with diesel when it gets down to around the one quarter mark.
I live in the country and, although we have a couple of petrol stations in our town, it is cheaper to fill up at work end of journey where there are large supermarkets. There are no garages for about 20 miles between home and work so I like to always have enough in case of diversions, unexpected emergencies etc.0

I fill up every week on way to supermarket for food shopping.
I allow £100 for petrol and shopping, so if I fill up first I know that we have plenty of petrol for DH to get to work (wouldn't want to stop him doing that)
and then spend rest on shopping.
Usually works okay except one week when petrol was £48 ish and I had to be a bit more creative with food budget!0

I "let" the finance company take my car away cause it was too expensive (Welcome Finance! Grrrr!!) When they took it away (by arrangement) it still had half a tank of petrol in it....
I've never ever been able to forgive myself for the short sightedness of that and the waste!
(thanks for letting me get that off my chest!)I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0

When buying our cars last year, there was some delay while they had to get them re-valeted. So they gave us a courtesy car, which was meant to be refilled to the level it was when given to us. I drove it around for a few days, did i refill it? Did i fook! Having just spent thousands with them there was no way I was gonna do that!"I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something."0

I usually put £30 in my little corsa on payday (15th) which i use for running about, then drive it till practically on fumes.OH hates this he likes a full tank in his bigger car and if he borrows mine, (which he does quite often) he always fills it up and gives me a lecture on running out of petrol:o. He probably fills it up more than me:rolleyes:. 0 and gives me a lecture on running out of petrol:o. He probably fills it up more than me:rolleyes:. 0
