Filling the car up.........

Surely any gains made by not filling up completely would be negated by the need to make more frequent trips to the petrol pumps?

I fill to the brim with the cheapest supermarket diesel I can find (usually tesco which is good for accumulating the clubcard points
) - but then I work 50 miles from home so have to fill the tank more-or-less every week anyway. Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW Nerd #4910 -
i have a credit card I only use for petrol purchases, which I pay off in full at the end of the month, this way it doesnt really matter when I fill it up, but I do generally fillupwhen it is nearly empty.0

It's the same principle as driving around with a boot full of stuff that you don't need. The heavier the car, the more fuel it must use to get around.
Not that I know what 45 litres of V-Power fuel weighs................
Ah, thanks ... it can only be marginal though

So it's better to make 4 or 5 trips with a bit of fuel, rather than one with a tank-full?
I tend to think that "green" issues are all about compromise and that there is no "perfect" or ideal solution to any of it

I did a part time job in a shell garage and you would be amazed how many people would come 2-3 times a day and stick £2.50 in usually paid in coppers, strangely these were the same that usually pushed the car onto the forecourt!0

i tend to fill up on payday but always have some spare cash to top up if needed0

This thread's really got me thinking now - if you fill the tank to the top then run the car until it's almost empty before filling up again, would this not work out the same as keeping the tank around the halfway mark on average over time?

I suppose it depends on whether your tank is 'half empty' or 'half full'. :rolleyes:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
