    Thanks Lynne. Great post.

People keep saying sainsbob more expensive but to be honest i find the prices are similar to tosco and arda. not major difference and what it would cost me in time and petrol would negate any savings.

But am London based so maybe all the prices are similar here and much cheaper elsewhere for others so sainsbob does work out more expensive.

Plus don't like the meat in arda. Taste not right and fruit and veg go off very quickly.

I have the mysupermarket links bookmarked for everything we buy food wise now - when it's time to do the weekly shop I 'open all in tabs' & write my list for each supermarket according to where is cheapest. Saves us a fortune, but we are very lucky in that we have Morrisons, Lidl, Iceland & Asda in town, with DH passing by Aldi twice on the way home!

Aesop - do you not have any A*di, L*dl, F F**d or £ shops near you, as I find they are much cheaper - especially if you don't mind brand swapping or snatching bulk buys when bargains appear.

I buy chicken pieces, thighs and breasts, from A*di and whole chickens from Morrys.

I tried all the sms for meat but was really not happy. Gone back to buying from butcher - not necessarily cheaper, but can get exactly what I want, in the quantities I want, and cut to my request. Again, I only go about once every six weeks and buy (and cook) in bulk, as it's a round trip of 24 miles.

  • I'm a long way from all the major supermarkets, a round trip of 32 miles:eek:. I used to order online and have home delivery but by the time the delivery charge is factored in (and the weird substitutions or items being very near their use-by date) I stopped doing it.

My nearest town (very small and still a round trip of about 11 miles) only has a Co-op (expensive) and a Morrisons so I tend to shop at Morrisons especially as they Price-matched all the supermarkets including Aldi and Lidl:j. Now they've decided to scrap the Price-match altogether which is a blow:(. There's an Aldi being built and I hope I'll be able to get most of what I want there, together with the street market for fruit and veg and the local butchers/fishmongers for meat and fish. I shall miss Morrisons though and like their own brand stuff but it's certainly not the cheapest of the majors.

The joys of living in a rural area (NOT):(. I envy you living in London, Aesop, and all others with a range of shops within easy reach.
  • I was given some cat food by a neighbour - her cat didn't like it - it went down just fine with my low-maintenance moggie - £3.40 saved. Also my friend bought me some tins of Lidl's aubergine & wouldn't let me pay because I'd done her a favour - £2.70 saved.

Sold some stuff on eBay - will add when buyers have paid - will come in at around £30 after fees I think.

I only have l£dl and it is not local, involves car drive or bus ride.

locally have wa8trose, sainsbobs, Ic4land, arda. they are all walking distance. being london based, I no longer have a nice butchers or fruit and veg shop where I could buy a carrier bag of fruit and veg for £5. I have lots of cosmpolitan shops who sell fruit in a bowl. I get fed up of walking in and finding they don't understand english and get shocked when I start replying to them speaking in another language. I don't understand their language but can usually guess what is being said and answere them in english which shocks and stops them doing it.

I don't have a freezer, I have an ice box, so I cant take advantage of 3 chics for £10 offer, etc. I do occasionally pop upto lidl esp when meat is on offer at weekend and crisps for £1.26.

I bought morris(ons own brand sausages the other day, they were lush! and cheap! so thinking about making the effort to go there for some stuff. not all as again don't find them that much cheaper on things. I don't buy branded stuff, i buy sainsbobs beans, and much prefer the taste. find heinz is too sweet now. how much sugar do they put in it?

I do like their own brand milk powder, DS has it at weekends for a treat but locally can only buy the branded stuff which is soooooooo expensive for a small tub. so he usually only gets it when on offer.

same with cereal, etc. we have tried l£dl branded cereal and sainsbobs - some of it is ok, some of it isn't but I guess it's all by taste and trial.

does anyone use approved foods? I did years ago and loved the way they pack their boxes. so space efficient unlike Amazon!

CP how did you get on with ebay listing? I had the 40 listings but not had time to list anything :( bit disappointed as the 50% off final fee would have been fab.

I really need to start uploading stuff to turbo lister even if it is 1 a day ready for next listing like this.
  • I used to use Approved Foods a lot about 7 or 8 years ago. They were just getting established then and the website wasn't very slick and professional-looking and was a chore to get an order completed:(. I found I was buying all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff just because it was cheap:o. We had things I've never seen before or since. Mealtimes certainly were an adventure in those days:rotfl:. Not sure really why I stopped buying from them and now you've mentioned them, Aesop, I'll have a good look at the website again. Like you I'd be very interested to hear if anyone has used them lately.

I managed to list 22 items in the end (before 9 last night) but I think the offer was for listings going live from 10th until 15th. I need to check the Ts & Cs again but if there's more time left I might do some 5 day Tuesday to Sunday evening auctions.

    Have a good week, everyone:beer:

    Hello

Can I join the challenge please? I'm moving house next year and this seems good way of [STRIKE]topping up[/STRIKE] building a moving fund.

I'll aim for £10 per day but as it's mid-month I only have 20 days left so a total of £200 for October.

So far I've joined the various lotteries (using links on the referral board) and posted my own links there.

Yesterday I paid for my shopping with £7.50 of Nectar points and used a £4.50 off a £30 voucher so can I claim £12 to get me off the starting blocks?

I've submitted a claim for train delay which will net me about £4. I'll count this when the voucher arrives. If anyone uses the trains, remember to claim for any delays. It depends on the train company but normally you can get half your ticket price back for a delay of over 30 minutes. They changed the rules recently so you can exchange the vouchers for cash at the station if you're not planning to make another journey.
