They were told that they had to achieve emissions of ? They were told what the test criteria is. So they achieve the requirement under the criteria as laid out.
If we except that a car will have different emissions at idle compered to 100 MPH there has got to be a set test criteria . If the powers that be , think that any car manufacturer wont look at this criteria to optimise its performance within it ,they are deluding themselves . Personally I think its more to do with the American government looking for any excuse to A, generate an income from European businesses as they have done before and B, protect their own manufacturing base.
I have a VW Passat TDI sport and a Audi A6, both lovely cars , do I care what the emissions are , not really , would I buy another one, yes definitely . If they were recalled would I take them in , probably not.
So you don't think the ECU being made to operate the emissions system differently when it senses differing wheel speed front and rear (IE When on a rolling road) is a problem?
What if VAG did the same with the ABS or Stability Control?
You know it works fine on a rolling road but doesn't operate to the same level on the road.
What VAG have done is criminal and fraudulent.
However there will always be the VAG fanboys who think they can do no wrong.
We are likely talking about particulates and NOX.
There are lots of VAG diesels in London and due to NOx levels TFL are probably going to be fined aswell as the ULEZ making life difficult for owners of diesel vehicles, who's can say if the NOx levels wouldn't be much lower if VAG hadn't been defrauding their customers.0 -
Buy it.
Great cars.
As long as out ignore the defrauding of owners, clutch failure caused by the kidney bean, sumps cracking on 2.0tdi engines and the ongoing issue of the under engineered oil pump.
Not forgetting the CVT box that fails regularly and the issues with engine problems on the 1.2 engine and oil consumption issues with the direct injection petrol engines.
Yes, they are great.
Just because you Lupo or whatever it is you own has been reliable is hardly relevant.
Last info I read was that it isn't just the 2.0tdi lump that is an issue, the 1.6diesel is also suspected to have the same software.0 -

And you think VAG would tell the truth?
The vehicles implicated in the US go back before Euro 5 was the standard, albeit the difference between a Euro4 with a DPF and a Euro5 will not be huge.
But it affects current models VAGs which will be Euro 5. Sounds like more BS from VAG.
Well not unless you own a VAG diesel then you won't really know what the difference is until you have it tested.
Let's not forget that huge number of business use vehicles have been bought due to the financial advantages obtained by VAGs illegal actions.
Personally I think all VAG diesels should be be tested to see where their emissions really place them, with owners made to pay the back taxes. They can then sue VAG for compensation.0 -

TBH I'd be amazed if they didn't tell the truth now. Can you imagine if they lied about the extent of the issue and were caught out on that too?0 -
VW shares are (at the moment) another 9% down. How long until VW are giving cars away at stupid prices?!0

The fact Volkswagen blagged a few numbers in their emissions tests doesn't mean they don't make good cars. I've not heard of the cracking sumps and I think the issues with the oil pump only affects some of the 2.0 TDi's on the Audi's so ermmm, yeah okay.
I know what the OP should do. He should go out and buy a Dacia Duster, put together with all the subtlety and class of the Orbit Sculpture in London and trade all these mythical issues with VW's for known rust issues with a car thrown together with seconds off a Renault.
Brilliant idea.0 -

I can only assume it's the whole eco-terrorism !!!!. That stuff sells. People are desperate to reduce their carbon footprint by buying a hybrid, so they can feel smug about the fact they're saving the planet while leaving their !!!!ing work computers on most of the time.
Utterly ridiculous.0 -
For those who don't see the 'concern' about emissions....Why not go and stand next one of these ultra-clean diesels VW are selling. Leave the engine on, and see how long you want to stand there breathing in what's coming out of the exhaust. Even worse how about you kids walking to school past a whole line of these cars stuck in a traffic jam??...Yes there are more polluting cars/vans/buses around, but VW sold these cars on a fake illusion that they are some how 'clean' and better for air quality. If I was a VW owner I would be looking into a class-action law suit.0

They didn't just 'blag' a few numbers, they engineered a complex system to specifically deceive and bypass laws on emissions - As others have said, this is fraud authorised at the highest level of the largest car manufacture in the world.
I'm not sure what your other comment is about, I don't have a Range Rover will have have one or aspired to own one.
The acid test is very simple - If you really believe VW has done no wrong go and find some VW/Audi's stuck in traffic and breath in their lovely emission fumes....I rather not thank you. NO/small particles produced as a result of diesel combustion is nothing to do with global warming, it's to do with trying not to expose your lungs to harmful carcinogens.
I suppose your one these people who still believe smoking does no harm....0 -

Didn't someone make it for them and tell them that using it in the way they did was illegal?0
