And so the scaremongering and hysteria begins - VW to collapse taking UK network with it, cars will "fail" MOT and be banned from the roads, used values will collapse, VW group broken up....0

You forgot to mention that the sky is falling!!!! The sky is falling!!!!
I'm sure we used to have cautionary tales about this sort of thing in childhood - guess they didn't transfer well to the video generation!0 -
Good points, I supposed I'd really have to hope that this blows over in the media before I'd like to sell it on again in a few years.
If you're keeping it a few years then any value impact from this "scandal" will be negligible in the big scheme of things. What goes around - comes around0 -
I wonder if this will affect Skoda and Seat aswell?
Edit.
Just read that Skoda are indeed involved. I would be surprised if Seat are found to be involved also.0 -

Let's not forget that VW have taken engineering shortcuts before.
VW got the fit and finish and marketing right, but their cars are not better or more reliable than a Ford to be honest.
At least the VAG biased motoring media will struggle to spin this in a positive way.
Though I wonder if this cheat software explains why VAG diesels don't have many DPF problems?
At least Jaguar Land Rover should be in the clear if that is the case!
Also I have just read online that Skodas are also implicated.0 -

All VW brands using those engines are implicated - Skoda, SEAT, Audi, VW CV - not just VW.
Edit: They should be announcing which ones are affected today, and hopefully the nature of the issue i.e. just that they contained the same software (but not used) or that the software was used to cheat in Europe.0 -

Given that they share engines, you would have to assume it is all brands.
Maybe my petrol SEAT will be worth more now0 -
People need to accept that internal combustion engines belong in a museum and not on the road.
For many uses, they're still the best, by a long way. Why pick on cars - look at the emmissions from air and sea traffic - clean those up.Yes, Tesla have a car with a range over 200 miles if driven in the correct manor
More like 300 I think. The gov gives you five grand towards the purchase of one. I assume your next car will be electric?0 -
Vauxhall chairman steps down and Hyundai recall around half a million (petrol) cars in the US. I think we may be starting to see the spread of this/similar issues in other marques.0

I must be the only one who can not see what VW have done wrong here.
They were told that they had to achieve emissions of ? They were told what the test criteria is. So they achieve the requirement under the criteria as laid out.
If we except that a car will have different emissions at idle compered to 100 MPH there has got to be a set test criteria . If the powers that be , think that any car manufacturer wont look at this criteria to optimise its performance within it ,they are deluding themselves . Personally I think its more to do with the American government looking for any excuse to A, generate an income from European businesses as they have done before and B, protect their own manufacturing base.
I have a VW Passat TDI sport and a Audi A6, both lovely cars , do I care what the emissions are , not really , would I buy another one, yes definitely . If they were recalled would I take them in , probably not.0
