I really like pickled eggs but they are really expensive.

I have been meaning to do this too, as I sometimes end up with so many eggs I can't eat them all before they go off. I think that basically you hard boil them, peel them and then put them in sterilised jars before covering in a brine/vinegar mixture with flavourings to taste. You definitely want to use white vinegar I think. More recipes here:

this might sound stoopid but I haven't got a clue how to pickle eggs. I'm partial to these and feel pretty sure that it's not just a case of throwing hard boiled eggs into a jar of sarsons. any advice greatly appreciated.miladdo0

I think you'll find it is that easy.....well that's the way I do them anyway,......make sure the jar is well scrubbed pop in the shelled boiled eggs and cover with pickeling vinegar...screw the lid on tight and away you go...But then again, maybe I've been doing it wrong all these years......someone will surely enlighten us."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. That's how I do it too.

Hiya
We have an older thread about pickling eggs which has some links in it to helpful sites so I'll merge your post into it shortly. Since posts are listed in date order you'll need to read from the beginning again.

Thats how I do them too, but I add pickling spices and 2 halved hot chillies with seeds to give them that extra zing!I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

I did some pickled eggs a couple of weeks ago. They are getting low, so it looks like its time for a second batch.
Can you re-use the same vinegar, or is fresh best? The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
i`d say reuse the vinegar, its not gonna go off or give you food poisoning or anything drastic! if its just you and your immediate family eating the eggs i don`t see a problem reusing it as you know where its been. save your money and use it againproper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0
