Hi ellieo,
It's not something I've ever done, or even tasted, but this thread should help you:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the replies together.

hi ellieo - yes you can use plain old malt - but, it discolours the eggs. any white vinegar will do - it doesnt have to be the expensive one for pickling.
The way I do it is to boil the eggs for ten minutes then cool them under running water. roll the egg on your worktop to crackle the shell then peel it off (tip here is not to use really fresh eggs - best ones are about a week old, fresh ones are a bu99er to peel). place all the peeled eggs in your jar then top right up to the top with your vinegar. allow ten minutes for eggs to settle then check that they are all still well covered with vinegar. seal the jar well. write date they will be ready/or bottled on the label. they only take about 4 weeks and I normally do mine 6 weeks before christmas.
I do love a pickled egg with cold meats and salad on boxing day! its sort of traditional in my house!0 -

Wanting to pick your brains on pickling eggs. Hubby loves them but at £2.80 for a jar of six I'm thinking its cheaper to make my own? Does anyone have any tips? Do we need a special vinegar, spices? And do we re-use the vinegar or chuck it and buy more to make more of the pickled eggs?0

I make my own, just boil the eggs, shell them and leave them in white vinegar for a few weeks. I reuse the vinegar until it looks too cloudy.0

I do the same as marmite potato!!! Boil eggs, put in sterile jar (either round dishwasher or in oven), cover with white vinegar, leave for three weeks and then enjoy (apparently.... I think they are vile!!!). I never reuse vinegar!!
