Um...I did mean after having taken some out first! I mainly ask because presumably otherwise one would need to sterilise the jars. And whenever I do that, it doesn't seem to work.0

Hi
I was wondering if someone could point me the right direction of a good bread book, dd and I have come across the joy of hm bread, I have had a bread maker for a few years but it has been stuck forgotten under the stairs for ages and we made some by hand last week and it was lovely:)
I thought we could try a couple of different receipes and any excuse for a new cookery book works for me!
Also was thinking of making some pickled eggs and wondered how long they keep and do they need to be in the fridge to steep or just in a dark place?

I cant help with HM bread - but pickled eggs are one of my favourite things to make!
you need two things
eggs and white vinegar (dont use fancy vinegar - use white pickling vinegar)
You just boil your eggs for about ten minutes (they have to be extremely hard boiled to stand up to the vinegar - otherwise they will disintegrate).
cool them and shell them
pack them into sterilised jars
pour on the vinegar making sure they are well covered
seal the jars - you can either screw on the sterilised tops or cover with cling film and seal with tight rubber bands.
label them with the date they were packed
leave them in a cupboard for about 6 weeks and they should be perfectly pickled!
as for how long they last - mine usually get eaten within a couple of months - but I did find a forgotten jar that was a year old and they were fine!0 -
Thank you so much Meritaten
I will give them a whirl at the weekend, just to test them out, was planning to make some for my parents as well to have over Christmas.

Hovis do a good little bread recipe book, though I can't find it on their site right now.
The Complete Breadmaking Collection Has a number of recipes in it.
And I'm sure there are bread making books in The Complete Old Style Book Collection
You don't say which breadmaker you have - but visiting their site may allow you to download or order their manual/recipe book and, finally, if it's a Panasonic or Morphy Richards we have large recipe and help threads for those; while other makes may well have a mention or two.
EDIT:- Dug out my copy...
