    1. A visit yesterday to a lovely garden which had opened to the public under the Yellow Book Charity Scheme. They had a wonderful walled kitchen garden which was a joy to behold. (I do love being nosey in other peoples' gardens.)
2.First two outdoor tomatoes have ripened, (1 red, 1 yellow, both from Tumbling Tom varieties).
    3. Breakfast & lunch out in the garden, using home grown vegetables & herbs and lots of weeding done.
    4. Picked nearly 3 lbs of redcurrants from one bush this morning and as the freezer is overflowing, OH has made several jars of redcurrant jelly.
    5. Planning a lazy evening and a good soaking in the bath.

Good evening. My five for today are:

    1. I was up at 5.30am as I woke & didn't want to go back to sleep. The couple of hours peace before the rest of the troops got up was lovely.

    2. All ironing done & up to date :j

    3. Lovely, but simple, tea of roast chicken, homemade wedges & home grown salad.

    4. Five out of the six of us worked in the garden this morning so the weeding & tidying was done in no time at all :T

    5. Anticipated pleasure of an early bath & a good read of a new thriller that I ordered from the library last week.

I hope that everyone has had a good weekend & I look forward to reading all about them & your pleasures too xx

Good evening, I hope everyone has had a lovely weekend.

    My five for today:

    1. Reading all the inspiring posts on this forum.

    2. Sausage and mash for tea - not very Sunday dinner-ish but much loved and appreciated by the brood :j

    3. Buying a book on baking this afternoon - it has lots of different cupcake recipes - yummy, scrummy

    4. Hearing my brother will be released from hospital in a couple of days :T He was very badly assaulted on Friday night.

    5. Having a wonderful dh who turned into a taxi-driver this weekend, ferrying family to and from the hospital without a word of complaint.
  • HI everyone
    My five for today.
    1. Making breakfast for DGC while son and DIL have a much needed rest.

    2. Picking the last of the greenhouse tomatoes, not bad for mid winter!

    3. Babysitting a friends toy poodle for a few days while she visits her mother, and enjoying the sheer silliness of the breed (after my hyper, always working collie its fun to watch)

4.Putting food out for the birds and realising that they were lining up waiting for me.

    5. Watching a seal frolicking in the waves, a comparatively rare sight on our sandy beaches

    Blessings be

    Jennie

    Hi all

UNASHAMED PLUG: Anyone who lives near SE London, I am organising an OS meet up in Blackheath on Saturday 18th July, see separate post!

Although I am now having lengthy and frustrating daily putah probs and suspect/know - like someone else earlier- that a new machine will be necessary[it'll have to be a Caterina-style freebie]....

Ampersand, I know I am good with freebies, but goodness me, never managed to get a free computer, I should be so lucky, mine also is nearly up for the Great PC Network in the Sky!

Another lovely day here, so here I am for my gratitudes!

1 - Weather continues to be lovely

2 - Walk to Farmers Market, through Blackheath, where there was the Race For Life, it was very life affirming to see how many people were running to fight cancer and in memory of loved ones.

3 - First courgette of the season from my front garden, and the tomato plants are loaded with little fruits!

4 - BBQ at a nearby local park where I also bought cheap cupcakes for our dinner.

5 - Long afternoon sleep, really needed it!

6 - Dinner in the garden with DH, DD and DS, lovely to be only the four of us as a family.

7 - DS agreed to come to the Isle of Wight with me and DD next week!

    Love to all

    Caterina xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    mine for today are

    2) Me sorting out the house while OH sorted out the garden
    3) Speaking to my mum on the phone, I do this every day but today I realised how lucky I am to do this as her twin sister sadly died saturday morning
    4) washing my bedding drying it outiside and putting it back on for tonight, I love the smell of freshly dried sheets.
    5) My OH taking me out for tea tonight

    Mine:

    1. Every meal being homemade today, instead of just chucking in rubbishy freezer stuff. Potato and leek soup, and cola pork. I found the recipe for the pork on this site, and though it sounds strange it was absolutely delicious.

    2. Being organised and doing some more packing for when we move house. Last year I left it til the last minute and it was a nightmare, now it feels great to do it at a leisurely and stress-free pace!

    3. Having the window open during a thunderstorm. It was really warm still so was nice to have a cold breeze blowing in, and to hear the rain and thunder. Everything felt so refreshed afterwards

    4. Joining the grocery challenge thread, and finding loads more great ideas for moneysaving on the boards. Going to get a little notepad and make a list of all the tips and recipes and things :)

    5. My boyfriend want to visit his grandma over the weekend, and she gave him her hand-written chocolate chip cookie recipe. I've always wanted one of those family 'handed down through the generations' type recipes so I'm chuffed to bits! Can't wait to try them out, but bf says they're the best cookies he's ever had :j
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

Here are ours for this weekend

    1) Saving £10 on some sandals by walking a little further down the High Street
    2) Saving the cost of our next Book Club book by ordering it from the library
    3) Free paper from coffee shop this afternoon after it was closing
    4) Brother and sister-in-law popped in for Sunday lunch and told us about their chicken-raising exploits.
    5) Risotto for tea from chicken stock with HM banana cake afterwards
  • Here are mine for the day
    1. Picking loads of courgettes from the garden and finding novel ways to get them used up......raw in salad (grated with chilli and lemon juice), turned into pasta sauce, a yummy cake and a filling for a quiche
    2. Making above quiche and cake with eggs from my lovely ex battery hens
    3. Feeling a bit sad cos the pea plants are past their best and needed to be composted, but thrilled by all the mange tout we picked. Eyeing up the french beans which are on their way.
    4. Making a load of strawberry jam, and managing to get the two batches to set for the first time ever.
    5. Sorting out a load of clutter from the living room and kitchen, and giving the kitchen a mega clean.

Not much to feel pleasurable about lately but thought I would make the effort today.

    1) Guttering cleared, not by me, and it didn't cost me a penny - one of the plus points about having one of my jobs in good old fashioned tied accomadation ! :T

    2) I am very much a windows open person too - LOVING the cooler air and gorgeous breezes floating in through the windows, much more comfortable - and its sunny as well so a bit like having one's cake and eating it too :D

    3) Hotfooted it along the road after work to an organic store that is sadly closing down ( not because it wasn't doing well but apparently the lady owner is very ill  ) Everything in the place is at least 50% and some of it 75% off. So returned with my shopping trolley literally stuffed with bargains, loads of preserves, dried fruits, grains, spices, toiletries, tinned beans & veggies, sauces, veg oils etc and all of it organic and a fraction of the normal price. Cost me a grand total of just over 13 quid.

    4) despite the exotic shopping trip, am looking forward to a nice childhood nostalgic simple dinner later of chipolatas, boiled new pots with mint and salad for dinner.:p

    5) am going to take my tired carcase off to bed for a bit shortly, with some liquorice allsorts and my battered old copy of Little Women and by gods nobody better stop me !

have a good day, all :)
