Thank you Blimus, ampersand, SunnyGirl and everyone for your lovely comments on the tattoo. It's always difficult to know how this sort of thing will be received and even I feel it was rather a rebellious thing to do!
I haven't had a reply to my pm to Ollie but it's only a day or so yet so will keep my fingers crossed for good news soon
Wish I lived closer Caterina, I'd love to meet up. Perhaps someone (me? lol) will organise something closeer to home in the not to distant future
I, too, lived in (manager in sheltered housing) for several years kittiscarlett and can confirm the benefits of not having to maintain a property. Even simple things like clearing guttering or replacing a tile costs dear and as a single person I would have found it quite a strain to keep a property up to scratch. After 15 years service I also had the advantage of being offered a lovely little house to retire to, still maintained by my landlords and in which I take enormous pride...and it gives me a little extra to spend on my family
Recent blessings...
1. Latest first, just woken from my siesta to a wet garden! Thanks to the powers that be it's the first time it's rained - more like a deluge in fact - here for more than 2 weeks, and much as you know I love the sun the thought of not having to water this evening is quite a relief
2. A little windfall in the post, apparently my company pension was underpaid last year and they've written to tell me a small amount has been deposited in my bank. This is tremendous news as I have a couple of birthday treats to arrange later in the month and I was wondering where I could cut back to help pay for them
3. A freecycler collecting some books and cd's which I no longer need, or have room for. Now I can go to the charity shop to see what I can find to replace them with
4. Being the successful 'winner' of some garden toys on freecycle. DS's new family of 3 (his OH's children) are coming to stay during the summer hols and I didn't have anything they could play with in the garden - until now :T
5.This morning Mr M had packs of 6 tea cakes for 49p, and BOGOF! That's 12 afternoon tea treats for me
Take care, blessings and hugs to everyone

One from just now - on a local forum I moderate, someone made a thread asking how best to cook for one as he found he was eating the same thing over again and throwing a lot of veg out. I gave him some tips from MSE, and another user said 'wow, you're like the queen of resourcefulness'
I was quite chuffed, and had to fess up that I couldn't take ALL the credit :rotfl:
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't importantTaste The Rainbow :heartsmil0 -
My five for yesterday are:
1. It was cooler than of late
2. Eating a tasty spicy lentil soup that I made for lunch.
3. DS2 got a letter from school asking him to interview for Head Boy :T
4. Spent a couple of hours with DD as she finished college last week. She is often so busy that we don't get much time to chat on our own so it was lovely.
5. Picking some more home grown salad to go with tea :money:0 -
I was just about to post last night when the site closed and didn't get back to it, so here goes with yesterday's pleasures:-
1. Taking a disabled friend to hospital for an x-ray to get her as close as possible to the department as I know this hospital like the back of my hand. Some of my memories of the place are very tender but at least I have built up a bank of experience with which to help others.
2. Having picked the salad leaves from the garden before we went out so that lunch was almost instant when we came home.
3. Cooking orange chicken in the Remoska when the recipe is for the slow cooker. The results were good and it is one of my family's favourites.
4. Hearing my DGK's doing their piano practice. DGS in so good but his younger sister is hard work. Hearing her get shouted at for not having practised what she should brought back memories. How I used to be shouted at for the same - but I'm still here, I can't play the piano though but I can cook orange chicken.
5. I'm another fan of the cooler weather and the rain which watered my garden for me, and far better than I could ever do it.

Hi all,
Am fighting a blinding headache and a big storm is brewing here weatherwise - lots of rain and humidity. But.... the silver linings are:
1. I slept well.
2. A carrot - apple - ginger juice yesterday for first time in ages.
3. I've moved furniture around and found theres space for another chair (like one I recently bought). This will replace the cat stool (ssssshh they don't know yet).
4. Using up more toileteries and resisting buying stuff I only like a litle bit. Save the pennies for the stuff I really want.
5. Attacking the kitchen yesterday. I seemed to have boxes of stuff on "display" - for crying out loud! So only food bits we're using are now out, so logical really. Also means we don't end up opening multiple packets of things as in the previous mayhem.
:rolleyes2Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

1. Sitting under the gazebo in the garden watching the rain.
2. Lunched on HM peapod & sorrel soup. Unusual but delicious.
3. Picked more gooseberries, redcurrants and blackcurrants. (wish our freezer had flexible sides).
4. Grass looking much refreshed after all the recent rain.
5. Home grown Roasted vegetables from the freezer for dinner tonight. No matter how much I remove, there still seems to be no more space left.0 -
Hi all
Sparrer, do organise a local meeting, you might be surprised how many people travel to meet other OSers! It is really lovely to meet in person with all the people you have been chatting online for ages!
Looking forward to news from Olliebeak!
Not long enough online yesterday so here are mine for yesterday and today:
Monday:
1 - Good workout at the Over 50s aerobics class
2 - Nice leftover lunch, bits and pieces of cheese and dips, with salad bits
3 - Bought M&S organic vanilla ice cream but could not find the chocolate one in store (the one I really wanted) so at home I made a chocolate sauce with cacao powder, threw it on top of the vanilla ice cream and Voila - chocolate ice cream!
4 - Picked up the keys for the Isle of Wight break and had a cup of tea with the lady who rents the cottage, really nice.
5 - Babysat for the baby and his sister. Discovered that it was their dad's birthday (mum had not told me when she booked me) so when mum and dad came back home at 9pm I sent them out again to the pub for another hour as a little birthday gift - they were very happy and I was very happy to be able to give them something valuable.
Tuesday:
1 - More baby care work today, he is just so sweet, hard work and all but really pleasant. It is good to be able to earn some money doing something good, fun and worthwhile.
2 - Lunch: pasta with courgettes, made with the first courgettes from our garden, they are lovely and the plants look really healthy and loaded with new growth - wonderful stuff.
3 - After lunch break - ate ice cream while reading Grazia magazine, nice and decadent hehe!
4 - Accompanied DD to interview as she was really nervous. Glad I could keep her company and we think the intereview went ok.
5 - All the rain! My gardens are grateful and I am grateful too as I do not need to do the watering.
Good night everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
My pleasures today:-
1. A trip to the local market to try to source cheaper fruit and veg. There certainly was some but they were selling it in multiples i.e. 4lb carrots for £1 or two cauliflowers for a £1, ideal for a family but not so good for Darby and Joan, but we enjoyed the trip out and had coffee and scones in M&S so that counts as our 'happy' trip for this week.
2. Managing to dodge the very heavy rain by getting off the bus before our stop and waiting in a shopping centre until it had passed and then caught another bus - thanks to free bus pass.
3. Another lovely salad lunch with chicken literally scraped from the remains of the one I fed my family last night.
4. An equally :money:tea of cottage pie with mince saved and frozen from the cottage pie I fed to the family last week. There was very little mince but it tasted good and the tub of pork gravy I dug out of the freezer added another dimension.
5. Pricking out 15 little gem lettuces and planting them in a modular tray aka an old egg box. Hoping these will grow on to enable me to put them in the ground before we go away and hoping even more that they will still be there when we get back so that we will have some salad, until I get the production line going again.
