After my 'pleasure' seeking marathon on Wednesday I didn't see to achieve very much at all yesterday, but here goes.

    1. It was cooler so I was back in working order.

    2. Catching up with Springwatch on iPlayer.

    3. I have pods forming on my peas. They'll form a bit more if only I can stop nibbling them.

    4. Walked to library/shops.

    5. Lovely clean sheets at bedtime.

    Bella.

    Good morning all :hello:

Hope we're all well-rested after a cooler night's sleep. Feels a little 'fresher' this at the moment :).

    - thanks for the photo-link to your beadwork, newlywed - what beautiful work you do - you must have the patience of a saint!
    - what a lovely sounding day, jackie - especially that last one ;)
    - we've got lots of elderflowers at the turning point in my cul-de-sac, thriftlady and they look gorgeous. (Would you share your recipe for elderflower cordial please?) I don't often have cause to go near them but the perfume is strong. By the way :rotfl: at your 'Pashley Princess' (and her basket) - daft me thought you were referring to a young daughter or granddaughter :o:o - after looking it up, I felt like a 'right plank'!
    - wow cheeswright - I've always considered that to be the height of luxury where library are concerned, especially if it was ordered at your request! While on holiday, I managed to buy 2 'never been opened' books in charity shops, that I had on my amazon wishlist and it felt like such a treat! And :T on watching most of your evening meal growing ;).
    - another BB fan here, Blimus? Quite a strange mix of folks - but then again, it always is! Sounds like you're enjoying your move to the countryside - how I wish that was on the cards for me :(. Would you share your recipe for elderflower cordial as well please? Maybe it's time I found a use for those flowers at the end of the road ;).
    - :j on your first strawberry crop of the year, Primrose - what a great haul! And well done on rescuing your kohl rabi from the caterpillars. Is there anything that they would prefer to your kohl rabi that you could plant to keep them away?
    - hope you enjoyed your 'non OS' treat from M+S, JaySL - things like that make a lovely change occasionally - and well-deserved after your OS efforts :).
    - well done on the bean growing, louise - I've not progressed that far yet! Still at the 'salad and herbs' stage here :).
    - there's always a 'plus-side' to mums staying over, jollymummy - in your case it's scones and biccies . With mine, it's having all my ironing done for me :T! Good Luck with the ankle, hope it's mending OK - not too many :j:j just yet ;). Isn't it amazing how disruption to their regular routine, can bring about behaviour changes in the kids?
    - mmmmm young pea pods , Bella - the crop needs to be tested occasionally/regularly/daily/by the hour ;). Springwatch has been great, hasn't it - though I have missed seeing Bill Oddie.

    1. Looking forward to a colleague's 'retirement do' later today at another of our sheltered schemes.
    2. Went to the local polling station yesterday evening - poor guys looked bored off their heads and said it had been really quiet all day. Very surprised to see the number of candidates standing (about 12 of them in total) though most of the parties I'd never heard of and certainly hadn't had any 'blurb' from them!
    3. Very quiet day 'workwise' - presume that the heat keeps them all quiet for the day ;).
    4. Roast Welfare Choice chicken (bought on whoopsie - 2 thighs and 2 drumsticks for 46p :j - frozen ages ago!) with oven chips and peas/sweetcorn (SmartPrice of course!) for evening meal last night. Probably beans and eggs on toast tonight!
    5. Half of the back garden mowed yesterday afternoon by OH - he gave up when he felt his bald-patch getting prickly with the hot sunshine! I offered to make him an OS 'knotted-hankie cover' for it, but he weren't impressed :rotfl:!
    6. Sorted out 'the shelf under the coffee table' and got rid of lots of paper etc into the recycling bin :j- feeling very virtuous now ;).

Hope everybody has a good OS day and here's a few (((((HUGS))))) if anybody feels like one :D.

Speak again later, love Ollie xxx

    4. Happy my daughter has lovely caring friends to go on holiday with later today
    5. Family is precious - I am so lucky :)
  • Hi Olliebeak,

Here's the Elderflower cordial recipe I used:

    Ingredients
    20 elderflower heads
    1 sliced lemon
    1 sliced orange
2 tsp citric acid (from chemist or online)
1.5 kg sugar (a lot I know, but to preserve it)
1.2 ltr (2.5 pts) boiling water

    Method
    1. Put all your ingredients in a large bowl, bucket or pan.
    2. Boil the kettle and measure out your boiling water then pour over the ingredients.
    3. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
    4. Cover with cloth.
    5. Stir two times a day for five days.
    6. Strain through muslin cloth or sieve.
    7. Bottle and refrigerate (can be frozen in polastic bottles).

    1) digging up and cooking our first ever batch of potatoes from our first ever veggie patch

    04062009272.jpg

    2) Had a clear out of my wardrobe, after being inspired by the OS Clothes thread, mamanged to throw out/recycle/give away a huge black bag full of stuff! and my cupboards/wardrobes/drawers are so much tidier and I can see straight away what I have to wear instead of rummaging for any thing and throwing it on : /

    3) Cooking a nice home made yummy tea for later! Gammon, New :) potatoes, peas and parsley sauce

    4) weeding the garden

    5) getting my housework done ready for the weekend, so we can have fun as a family instead of time being taken up with mundane tasks!

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
Hi all, back in UK (since yesterday evening) at last!

I haven't had a chance to read all the posts in depth, just skimmed, so HUGS to anyone who needs them and apologies if I do not mention people individually, will catch up in the next few days.

Had quite a challenging time with my mother, we have always had a difficult relationship and it was no different this time. Still, I want to find some positives and here are a few in no particular order for the last few days:

1 - Managed to get a cabin for the sea trip to Sardinia (cancellation at the last minute).

2 - Spending time with my mother who, even if quite a difficult character, is well and healthy for her age and circumstances (for which I am grateful!).

3 - Seeing my brother, his wife and two little children, who are two little savages (live 100% free-range in the outdoors!) but absolutely adorable (when not busy destroying something!) and very clever and beautiful.

4 - Met a cousin for the first time in our adult lives, probably played together age 8 or so but forgotten each other completely (his grandad and my granny were siblings, that makes us cousins in 2nd degree!).

5 - Met with an old friend (who I see often when I go to Sardinia) and with her sister, who I last saw 44 years ago. We had a lovely afternoon gossiping in her office, as if it was yesterday that we last met. Great stuff, just like Sex and the City, only in Italian and in the middle of nowhere in the Sardinian hinterland:rotfl:

6 - Spending time in Rome with my auntie and laughing a lot as we always do.

7 - Grateful that my auntie, at nearly 80, is fit and well.

8 - Good trip back home, only 1 other person in the sleeping compartment and he was discreet, silent, not snoring and his feet did not smell!:T

9 - DD came to pick me up at St Pancras station and I cannot begin to describe the love, pleasure and delight that I felt at seeing her dear sweet face on the other side of the exit gate.

10 - Seeing DS and DH again, I love them all so much, it was hard to be away from them and the more delightful to meet them again.

11 - Sleeping in MY BED!!! I could go anywhere and face anything if only I could take my bed with me!

12 - Having found the house like a bomb had fallen on it, grateful that before leaving I had the foresight to book my old cleaner for a one-off. She has just left and the house is singing again!

13 - Found veggies growing very well.

14 - Great workout this afternoon.

So many more if I sat and wrote them all I would never go to cook dinner for my family!

Love to all, great to be back and will be here more often from now on.
