In my mind you haven't "been overlooked" as people have sent you messages and are saving your "fund" for a baby present.
I'm not sure if I'm explaining it properly - the 'fund' doesn't exist for presents - thats what the whip-round/collection does. This means that someone who has been there for 30 years will potentially get a higher value gift than someone who has been there a year - which is fine as that's the nature of a collection.
The 'fund' for cards/flowers is paid into equally by everyone at the start of the year. So, at this moment in time, there's probably approx £200 sitting in that fund to pay for cards and flowers.

but the OP said in post #4
"and a few people have messaged me to see how I am."
Presuming she has replied to the messages, the update has been provided and the office will know.
A few people, not necessarily the ones who organise these whole school things. Schools can be rather large places but, for all that gossip can spread like wildfire, information isn't always shared (perhaps why people are being hesitant here). During my absence, my line manager and my closest colleague knew why and they would not have divulged any details. Other messages were along the lines of 'hope you're feeling better' and nothing involving any kind of detail. Sick lines and calls my calls involving little more than 'I won't be in next week' and the briefest explanation of were made to a line manager bound not to pass details to others.
Systems and details may vary but this kind of fund is common. There is no central place for staff to get details of what/when sent but those on the committee are really rigorous and fair. We all pay in and probably expect and hope that we contribute far more than we get back. In my workplace it's not about getting your due - I certainly wasn't looking for a gift and was too ill to really think about it - but about knowing that the system works for everyone. I think it helps that the fund contribution isn't just about this but includes things like cakes for a slightly extended break on the last day of term
Two of my colleagues will be off for at least a year with serious illnesses. I hope that they won't just get a cursory gift three weeks in and that they are given reason to realise we are all sending positive thoughts throughout this time. I certainly wouldn't begrudge it, even though I know only one of them well enough to send more than a card to.
How are you feeling in yourself, hieveryone?0 -
The only reason I know anything about the health of other people in the school I work in is because I've been told by them/they're people I work closely with. The management team don't share information to that extent; you only find out that they're off if cover needs to be organised, and even then, not why they're off or how they're doing. It's none of our business.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

I think the general consensus is that it's not that big a deal, which is what I suspected. I'm not overly upset by it, it's more just the feeling of being overlooked, but I can see the potential reasons behind that, which is fair enough.
Thankfully I seem to be on the mend, with slight relapses here and there, but am doing everything I can to feel better without going down the medication route (a lot of which is unavailable to me anyway).
Thanks everyone for your insights.

I do understand why you're feeling a bit upset hieveryone because I would be a little to. However since you've been ill you're probably looking at it in a negative way in the first place.
Try looking at it like this - some of you're colleagues care about you enough to personally message you and ask about how you're doing. That shows more though that simply writing something in a card when they've been told to.
I'm sure that the main reason you haven't received anything yet is because of being pregnant. Illness and pregnancy is quite a difficult combo for people who are not sure exactly what is going on and I'm sure it's more along the lines of not wanting to cause you any upset by sending something inappropriate.
Hope you feel better soon and good luck for the rest of your pregnancy
