Saturday/Sunday 19th/20th September - What small DFW things will you do this weekend?

  • Morning all
Didn't get back to check in last night - it was well after 8pm when we got in. We had a fantastic time at the cinema and I think everyone really enjoyed the film. It was quite short lived though as the kids were in full on fight mode by the time we got home and I had to send the pair of them to bed early.

It's DD's birthday today - she was up early, and as requested she got money from everyone apart from us. I got her a Wii, which she was desperate for - but of course they aren't made any more. So I'd got it second hand from eBay and it's fabulous except there is one tiny bit missing. I hadn't even checked. So I've ordered the bit (only £2.89) but of course we need to wait for it to be delivered. I feel pretty bad, but there's not much I can do about it now. :o Thankfully both kids have been invited to another birthday party today so hopefully that will keep them entertained.

Bob - I hope you're taking it as easy as you can. Try not to wear yourself out.

    So - update from yesterday
[STRIKE];) washing done and dried on line[/STRIKE] all done
[STRIKE];) check banking - done but no PAD.[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE];) DS to football[/STRIKE]
    ;) all meals from stores
[STRIKE];) take DD to cinema for her birthday (tickets already booked and paid for)[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE];) I've decided to have a weekend off from housework other than the bare essentials[/STRIKE]
;) Get DH to mow the lawn (I love having a garden but I really hate gardening)
    [STRIKE];) Do some exercise[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE];) Sort through Christmas shopping lists[/STRIKE]
;) meal plan and batch cook for next week

    So - today's list
;) meal plan and batch cook for next week
    ;) all meals from stores
;) Get DH to mow the lawn (I love having a garden but I really hate gardening)
    ;) exercise
    ;) tutoring
    ;) kids to the party
;) make dd spaghetti Bolognese for her dinner (her favourite)
;) MUST mark these exam papers today - this is my most urgent job
;) Aim for nsd other than what I've already ordered for dd

I'm a bit annoyed that I still haven't marked these exam papers. I should probably start that now - before I go out. Have a good day everyone.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Determined - I must say I did wonder. I think they define it from 37 weeks not to split hairs. I don't have any other symptoms and think it's more likely to be from standing up for 9 hours yesterday with a 10 minute break. I swear people have radar. Every time I sit down they come in. Gah.

KayAnnie - it's very true. Catering is all or nothing. Well done on all your amazing foraging. That's awesome.

Yorkshire - my boy is desperate to try fishing. What age did your husband take them from?

Hi all, hope your all having a good weekend. Mine went from bad to worse after last week! Yesterday I took my car to the scrap yard after it dieing on my last weekend. So that was sad and then my laptop has gone and died on me! Luckily I can use OH's laptop as he had one before we got together! Anyways a quiet weekend for me, poorer than poor! The car died the day after I filled the tank up, typical! So now I've had to fork out for a bus pass which equals £2.67 left in my bank account until Wednesday! Anyways today I will/have:
    • Go food shopping at T - Got a £4 off voucher - Done only spent £20
    • Check online banking - Done, no change!
    • Do Swagbucks
    • Do My Survey
    • Try and list a few bits on Ebay
Thats about all! Happy Sunday all x

My son started at about 12. He went a few times before then but they have got to be at an age where they are prepared to sit still for a few hours! To begin with my husband found it really hard work because my son wanted to do it all on his own but needed a lot of help. We found a small fishing lake about half an hour from home that never got too busy and they would go there and practice. DS has health problems and its a brilliant hobby for him because its not too physically demanding and he spends ages watching internet videos on fishing. He is now far more of an expert than my husband.

At 16 he has now started going on his own sometimes. Its just a little frustrating because some fisheries dont like under 18s being there unsupervised (safety reasons I suppose). He absolutely loves it though.

So, I need to wash the car and hoover it out. I really dont want to do this but it is filthy and it would save me £5 at the car wash. And I dont really have anything else that pressing to do..

    Afternoon all.

I'm on my phone so haven't read all the thread but hope you're all well. I did catch the question from chocolate lover - I really enjoy circuits but it does depend on the class/instructor. But would definitely suggest giving it a try.

    Today I have/will:
    * check banks
    * go for a run
    * two loads of washing done and hung on line
    * clean out Hoover inc filter
    * walk to shop
    * help friend at kids party to earn £20
    * pop to oh's dads to sign some forms
    * go to parents for roast
    * see if I can find iPod at parents
    * sort out stuff for music magpie!

Think that's everything for today. Hope you all have a good day.
    Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
    Current debt - £5,555.00
Total paid off - £10,045.89 (64% paid off)

    Evening DFW-ers,

    Bob: Hope you're ok.

    Wee list:

    Nillionaire Month Four:

    * Survived first proper day at work. Being a Sunday it was quiet. Tomorrow will definitely be a more 'challenging'.
Came close to enjoying myself. Steady on Dowd.

    * Took packed lunch to work. Bought nothing in the canteen.

    * Checked broadband allowance and finances.

    Have a nice evening all.

This made me smile Ally! Glad today went well.
  • Ally pleased to hear survived your first day at work.

    Bob please look after yourself.

Today has been grey and overcast which means I am very lacking in motivation :( I have done the children's lessons, discussed with OH meal planning, we both agreed that having done a months plan (nearly) we have
*saved our selves from having that conversation everyday about what is for dinner and hoping the other person has an idea
*our meals have been more varied
*we have used up somethings that have been in the freezer for a while
    *saved money
*saved time as after writing the meal plan we wrote a shopping list for the month which I bought as our first shop of the month meaning further shops throughout the month have only been popping in for fresh stuff (milk, F&V) also with a list
We have have decided we would like to add more fish dishes, now we need to find some that we will all like and are within budget.

    Weekend's list:
    2 NSD
Turn off lights and appliances not in use
    Run DW overnight
    Run WM overnight
    Soak porridge
    Open curtains fully
Close curtains before it gets dark
    B/L/D from stores
    Make bread
    Pack Mondays snacks
Operation toothpaste tube still ongoing :o
    Cull 100 emails
Plan next week or otherwise I will have achieved nothing
Post on weekly spend challenge thread
Look into cheapest way to parcel, suggestions welcome
Entertain us ad children for free
    Educate children for free
Order some free HE resources (BBC & OU)
    No heating

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend

Sorry for so many posts from me this morning!!!
Ally, good luck with the job!

This morning so far has consisted of 2 lots of maths homework, 1 spelling homework, a converstion homework, 2 English reading practices, 2 Welsh reading practices, printing free p!zza coupons & printing 40+ party invites ready for ds1 to take into school tomorrow.
Only just had breakfast now which was ys crumpets & dairylea triangles.

Today will hopefully be a low spend day (although we are looking to replace the combination microwave that went bang in the week, this will probably be from JohnLewis as they offer an extra years warranty, but I'm hoping that I can put this off a few more days first)

    Todays list
:starmod: No purse when we go to ds2's swimming lesson done
:starmod: Wash a load at 30 degrees on the quick wash done
    :starmod: hang washing out done
:starmod: Eat food supplies from freezer as its fit to burst done & pulled meat out to cook tomorrow
:starmod: Aim to walk at least 7000 steps for bounts points, didn't do this yesterday :(
    :starmod: Check fpl done
    :starmod: Check luckyphone done
:starmod: Check boys school bags make sure no letters are hidden in there done and they need money for trips arrgghhhh no change will have to go to shops!
:starmod: Entertainment will be via netflixs, playing a board game with the kids etc done
:starmod: Dh has popped to aldi/Iceland to get bread for sarnies, butter & coffee, need him to pay cash so that I can get some change to pay some money to school for trips/gym t shirts
:starmod: Made sandwiches for families lunches tomorrow

    Have a good day all
Done ok with my list today and got a few other bits done too!
Pre ordered tablets for the kids from Amaz0n using gift cards earnt doing swagbucks for Christmas
Ordered microwave from Jlewis but then immediately cancelled again as it would mean waiting in all day for it to be delivered tomorrow and so I'd miss the gym class in the morning. Will get DH to order curry's vouchers through his work discount scheme and get it on Tuesday instead.

Hope everyone has had a good day, and that Bob you are feeling ok? How was it today?
  • I'm back!
It's been a pretty productive day, of ups and downs. Got lots done, but may need to call on all of your wise advice in a sec.

Ally, pleased that work has gone ok.

    So - today's list
[STRIKE];) meal plan and batch cook for next week[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE];) all meals from stores[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE];) Get DH to mow the lawn (I love having a garden but I really hate gardening)[/STRIKE] It was me of course, who ended up cutting the grass. DH is in full on anxiety mode and has barely lifted his head from the sofa all day
    [STRIKE];) exercise
    ;) tutoring
    ;) kids to the party[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE];) make dd spaghetti Bolognese for her dinner (her favourite)
;) MUST mark these exam papers today - this is my most urgent job
;) Aim for nsd other than what I've already ordered for dd[/STRIKE]

Good news is that I saw my sister for the first time in about 6 months today. I had a fall out with her hubby on Christmas Day and things have been strained ever since. She came round with a card and some money for DD for her birthday. It is always ok when I see her, as long as our hubbies and kids aren't about.
Less good news - my stepdad's mum died this morning. She had been unwell for a very long time, but always kept going. It was a bit of a shock to hear that she has really gone this time. My mam has asked if I will go to the funeral (which I will of course), but I am unsure about whether to take the kids with me or not. They are 11 and almost 7. And if I do take them, what do they wear? Should I be looking on eBay for plain black clothes or is it not really like that at funerals any more? I just don't know...
