MSE News: The Big Energy Switch Event III: Ends Thursday

Hi Sangyn and welcome to the Forums. Happy to help but need a bit more information please.
Have you just moved home? If you have, did you apply for the MSE Collective tariff at the old address or the new? Sorry if I'm being a bit dense but it sounds like you received our Home Moves letter after the CEC email. It's just that it's not possible for customers to take this tariff with them if they move home.
If, though, you've applied at your new home then you should've received emails from us about the switch. These will be followed by a Welcome Pack with the tariff and account details. This usually arrives about 6-7 working days after the switch starts.
Just a quick heads up about our emails. Sometimes, the security settings on computers are high. This can lead to our emails being disliked and dumped into junk/spam folders or even automatically deleted altogether. Not saying this is the case here, it's just something to be aware of.
It usually takes about two and half weeks for a change of supplier to go through. If you've registered with our website, you can keep an eye on how things are going through the 'Track My Switch' tool. We've support teams in place should there be any difficulties. This support is detailed in the FAQs on the CEC's Big Energy Switch 3 page. It's at the link below.

Alternatively, drop an email to the address in my Profile. I'll be happy to take a look.
Sorry again if I've missed the point Sangyn but hope this helps a little.

Thank you for the reply: I put my new address for the application. Nothing received there or by email.
Hope it's just a delay in the email, I always check my junk folder.

Hi Sangyn
Sorry, just spotted your post. Have you received anything from us yet? I know there's been the odd delay where we've needed to double check something but, overall, most switches have gone through as they should. If all's okay with your switch, you should've received something by now. Drop an email to the address in my Profile if you haven't received anything yet. Happy to take a look.
Have you had the chance to check out the 'Track My Switch' I mentioned before? Might help.

quick update from me, regarding cashback, received email this morning stating that the switch is complete and should get the cashback within the next couple of weeks.....
When will I get my cashback?
Your cashback will be arranged over the next couple of weeks. If you pay your energy bills by direct debit, it'll be paid straight into your account and appear as 'EnergyClubCashbk'. For all other payment types, we'll send you a cheque.0 -
I made the collective switch from EDF to e.on and I have just received my final bill from EDF. They have only gone and estimated the gas reading and not in my favour!
e.on say they passed the reading to National Grid who in turn are supposed to pass it to the old supplier. Apparently they have one more week to do this.
Why on earth EDF felt the need to send the bill before getting this reading is beyond me.
I suggest anyone else moving to this deal from EDF check their final bill carefully to make sure the readings are correct. I suspect though that anyone on MSE forums will be eagle eyed enough to do this anyway but I thought it worthwhile mentioning this.
fyi... my electric meter reading has made it through to EDF0 -
Hi twizzel
Thought I'd pop on with a bit of information about what happens with a change of supplier. As your new supplier, it's our responsibility to let the previous supplier know our opening meter readings. They'll use the same readings to close their account and issue a final bill. It's important the opening/closing readings match as this makes sure the same energy is only charged once.
Readings and other details are passed between the two suppliers and certain third parties (regional distributor, meter operator, meter reading agent, national database etc) via a series of electronic messages. These messages let all those involved with your energy supply know about the changed circumstances. Although we've started supplying, it may be longer before all the information's in place.
The message about the readings goes via a third party who check they're in line with previous readings. Sometimes, particularly if there's a delay, the old supplier will estimate a closing reading. This is usually amended later once the actual readings come through and a revised final bill is then issued.
It's not unusual for the electricity and gas to complete at different times. Don't worry, if there's a discrepancy with the readings, we can use an industry wide process to sort this with your old supplier. As above, this'll make sure the opening/closing readings match and charges aren't duplicated.
Hope this is of interest twizzel. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

Supposedly my switch went through on 9 October.
British Gas (my old supplier) have received the closing meter reading for the electric but not for the gas. My gas account is in credit, but BG won't give any money back until they have the final meter reading.
Is there a reason why the gas reading would take longer to go through? Very disappointed because the timing of the transfer meant that BG took another DD payment for an account already in credit and the account is now locked; so they won't refund any of it until they have the final reading from e.on.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. Morning silvercar
I'm sorry you're disappointed.
The meter reads are sent through separately as this is all done electronically and passed through third parties to verify the reads.
The reads are normally sent to the old supplier within around 32 working days of the supply start date.
Once the old supplier has your final reads, they'll be able to close your account to these reads.
So everything should be sorted soon.
I'm here if you need me though.

Hi Helena,
Can you please tell me what the electric/gas unit rates are and the standard charges are for this tariff. Is it the uswitch tariff?
Thank you0 -
Hi Helena,

Thank you
I'm sorry hilljd00 I can't give out any unit rates etc on the forums, this will also depend on region.
If you're looking at the USwitch collective tariff, you have to go through USwitch for this anyway, we can't offer it directly. So pop on to the comparison site for this.
Our tariff's can be viewed on our website and doing a little quote.
I'm sorry I can't help much.
