Glad the switch has gone through okay molerat. Disappointing, though, about the poor spelling in the email.
I'll raise this.
Sorry about this mistake and thanks for flagging it up.

I signed up for this switch before the deadline, but am concerned because I recently (before this) had a switch fail because my Meter Point Reference number (for gas supply) is not on whatever database suppliers use to organise customer transfers.
Will E.On contact me to ask for this, or will the switch just fail and if so can I avoid that by contacting E.On myself?
I have obtained my MPR from my existing supplier, so I can provide it if asked.0 -

Well, I just received an email that allowed me to activate my new online account with E.On, so I did that and sent a message through the Help System notifying you of my MPR, so I hope that will be noticed by somebody.0 -
I'm moving to E.ON from SSE via the collective switch. As I pay my existing SSE bills with a monthly direct debit, will SSE take all the remaining bill money they need themselves via the direct debit or do I need to make a manual payment to finish off the final partial month? I will owe them approximately £15 on the forecasted completed switchover day, and after that date it would be about a further 25 days until my next direct debit payment would be due to be taken normally. I pay a fixed £67 each month to SSE (electric only).
Thanks,
Dave0 -

Hi samizdat
Don't worry, we've support teams in place looking after queries similar to yours. If the switch fails because of the Meter Point Reference Number, this will be flagged up to these teams. They'll investigate and, if necessary, be in touch.
I suspect the email you sent will go to our online support team. This will find its way to the advisors looking after the switch but there may be a delay. If you drop an email to the address in my Profile, I'll be happy to take a look and see where we're at.
Can I ask, is the property a new build? This type of issue sometimes happens with new developments. If it is, it'll help if you can let us know some additional details. These are the full address as used by the Royal Mail, meter serial number, an up to date reading and a plot number if applicable. Will save a bit of time.
Hope this helps samizdat.

Hi Dave
I'm afraid, I don't know how other suppliers handle accounts that leave them but thought it might help if I give you a bit of information about what you can expect from us during the switch.
A bit nearer the start date (takes about two and half weeks to switch), we'll be in touch to ask for meter readings and we'll start your account from these. When a supply changes, it's up to the new supplier to let the old supplier have their opening meter readings. The old supplier will close their account to the same readings. This makes sure energy is only charged once. We'll send your readings to SSE via electronic messages. These have to be checked first by a third party so there may be a delay between your account opening with us and receiving the final bill from SSE.
If you register with our website, there's an online tool you can use called 'Track My Switch.' This will let you see where the switch is at.
Sorry I can't shed much light on what happens at SSE's end but hope this if use. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

Thanks, Malc. Funnily enough the welcome pack arrived today and it seems E.On do have the MPR after all. Maybe it was a problem with the switching service I used previously, or possibly my subsequent enquiry has resulted in the database being brought up to date. It isn't a new build, so I have no idea why the data was missing - I even spoke to Transco, who said they had no record of the MPR.
Whatever, there doesn't seem much point in making everyone run around in circles, so perhaps we should just assume it will all be OK. Thanks again.0 -
You're welcome samizdat. Glad to help.
If we have the MPR then I suspect you're right and the National Database was brought up to date following your earlier attempt at switching. It's only the current supplier who can amend these details and it's likely they'll have done this once you had alerted them to the issue.
You know where I am if you've any other concerns/questions samizdat. Always happy to help.
