A lot better today, just a dull ache left, knee to ankle but mostly knee area. I did some more therapy stuff this morning and rubbed napiers capsicum and ginger all over, took joint relief and turmeric. Yes I am on the mend but honestly that was a hard lesson about pacing myself better.
At least any garden equipment sorting in the future will be minimal and I am def not growing all those troughs of flowers again, or tomatoes. I won`t mind doing the stove pellets in future as they are manageable 10kg bags, it was the huge amount of extra work that did it. I must remember that my body is not a machine
7 hours sleep last night but as always a loo break, this time at 3.30. Didn`t watch any tv last night, just read sitting in a recliner, that chair took some pressure off my leg, then had a magnesium bath, so nice even if the bath itself is one of those shallow ones. I have to flip over to get out but can do it safely0 -
What is a teeter inverter pls?
Suffering terribly with sciatica?, and as soon as I lie down in bed, it gets worse, although I have a good quite new mattress. Saw GP today who said she didn't think it was sciatica, perhaps a trapped nerve. Sending me for MRI, though I had to push for it. i had acupuncture about a year ago for this, which helped a little at the time, but only temporarily.
I've always had sleep problems, nothing new with getting to 60 - a glass of Pimms at night quite a good solution!
Could be a herniated/ruptured disc. If it is the MRI will show it, Ie recently had the same thing. Was firstly diagnosed as Sciatica. Its extremely painful you have my sympathies!0 -
I have osteo- arthritis and have had for over 40 years so have learned to live with achy joints. I do have medication for the joint pain, but prefer to do without if I can as I find it make you feel very zombie-fied in the morning.I cannot remember sleeping for more than 4 hours at a time for a long time, and I'm one of those people who has to get up once my eyes are open. But I compensate by 'nanna- naps' in the afternoon as I can also sleep on a sixpence so I guess I get enough sleep for my needs.I do think the older you get the less sleep you need. Best book to get you off to sleep with is Moby !!!!!!, the most boring book in the english language, and I am a prolific reader

So my grateful thanks to all suggestions and support, I think we might have solved it, well improved it anyway but I would love to sleep past 5 am.
If you're like me, you may find that as the days grow shorter you sleep in for longer. Despite all our modern technology, I find my body still seems to be very in tune with feeling sleepy when it's dark and getting up when it's daylight, so naturally sleep longer in winter.
I'm lucky in that I don't usually have problems sleeping, unless I've been working late in which case things start whirring round in my mind and I can't switch them off.
I found in my student days when revising for exams that for me the trick is is to spend at least an hour immediately before going to bed by doing something that is "mindless" but requires your full attention so you can't think of anything serious. Jigsaw puzzles work well for me in this respect, and although I haven't tried them, I suspect this latest trend of adult colouring books might also have the same effect.0 -
Thanks for your reply Sanschoot49. What treatment are you having for your problem?
Still recovering from my knee replacement in April, so loathe to start again with hospitals for something else.
Trouble is the pain (which is awful first thing, but the more I move about, gradually disappears durung the day) is affecting my walking. It is much worse on the side of the knee replacement, so don't know if it is caused by walking badly before the op. Chicken and egg situation.0 -
Have a look at this site for the psoas muscle group that can cause leg problems. The exercise is just lying relaxed and makes a big difference
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7JS-r4mUQg
Another group is piriformis and there are youtube videos on how to release the muscle tension
Personally I found the psoas exercise to be very beneficial
I just had a teeny twinge to the side of my ankle this morning, so did the exercise and put the capsicum and ginger cream on it. It seems to have completely gone now but I have had a very gentle two days. It was so painful a few days ago
I think I awoke every hour last night, luckily went back to sleep, it might even have been caused by a sheep baa-ing as the area is silent, so rain, wind etc is comparatively noisy. I didn`t put bed socks on last night and am still using crisp cool cotton sheets, maybe it is that. The bed socks did seem to help0 -

I had had weeks of physio by this time which in the end did no good.
I had the micro discectomy about 3 weeks ago, have had significant pain relief so far and am optimistic.
Hope you get it sorted, it really is the worst thing I have ever experienced pain wise, plus I need to work to earn money and when this is really bad you have a job to get out of bed never mind anything else.0 -
So lucky - 64 and 8 months and nothing. Still working. Bit autistic as is rest of family so not social and don't read ppl right. But happy in my own skin. Yeah!0

Just facing facts ie that several of us in a couple will one day be left on our own so adaptation is key to surviving that, as well as the trauma itself. Happened to me just 6 months ago after 45 years but that is life
So now the winter prep and for the first time, all down to me. Doors and windows oiled, winter fuel bought in and stacked, garden and allotment getting sorted, car kit is ready. Not mentioning all the routine everyday stuff as well as all the things like flipping a very heavy mattress etc
So yes, important too to prepare for changes in life circumstances, to be aware of what needs to be done0 -
One change is that I have noticed I am much more reluctant to go out in the pouring rain than I used to be!
