I've been AWOL for a bit but need to get back on it.
Could I be put down for £70 a week please starting from the 1st Oct (inc toiletries etc as well as food).
    Thanks!

Actually - could I change this to £80 a week please? Reading through other posts and looking at my very sad and empty freezer it would be an idea to use £70 for my week and £10 for stocking up! Starting from the 1st still.

    Hi all

First shop of the month is done. i'm slightly annoyed as I paid a bit over the odds for ketchup and soft drinks. £4.70 at Coop. I have had a few NSDs though, so I suppose I'm doing fine.

I am determined to do well this month. I have got a freezer full of meat and fish, and I really want to use it up. The freezer could use a defrost, and lots of the contents are fairly ancient. I do need to work out what to do with some random meat, including something called skirt steak. No idea what on earth that is, but I will work something tasty out!

I'm going to do a biggish shop tomorrow. i want lots of veg, diet coke, milk, bread, etc., and ingredients to turn some YS turkey mince into meatballs, and to make soup.

    Good luck in October everyone!

Skirt is the cut that is used in traditional cornish pasties. You can also braise it (try the Hairy Bikers recipe it's brilliant!). You could also use it make a stew or casserole.

It's a great slow cooked meat with loads of flavour.

    Afternoon all,

First shop of the month has been delivered that cost £62.29. Now got to play around with my menu plan as one of the meats I ordered was not available.

Off now to prepare lunch for hubby to take in tomorrow. New plan this month to make packed lunches rather than hubby buy lunch at work.

There is no more planned spending until next Wednesday's delivery, just need to be organised and have food made up into appetising meals/snacks to encourage hubby that this can be achieved.

    Good Luck all.

    January 2025 Grocery Challenge: £220.00/£59.47
January 2025 NSD: 0/30 (unplanned spending)

  • Managed to grab a fair few bargains over the past few days; I'm done now apart from a weekly top of fruit, milk and bread and food for our week in the caravan.

Plenty of meat/main bases in so now it's just cooking it all and saving money where possible :)

I'm on a packed lunch binge so lots of ideas put together to keep me full and stop me snacking :) leaving the money at home from tomorrow (bf needed a few bits picking up today)

  • Thats me done the first shop of my October Challenge I spent £87.22 on a large weekly shop. Thrilled as I normally do that for £110.00 so quite a savings for me. We did have alot of meat in the house and fish so that helped , but because I know I am on budget next week I bought a 3 for £10 meat that was on offer (grab it while I can) , so got lean mince x2 large trays and a pack of 6 pork chop things. I also bought 3 for £5 quorn swedish meatballs , again for next week.

I am trying to make things stretch , tonight we had a roast with 2 med joints one beef and one gammon (unusual for us) but after feeding 4 there was still alot left, so tomorrow I am making soup with the ham (can be frozen or do my lunches for a few days) and the beef which was tough I and carving up and poping it into the slow cooker to make cowboy chilli :)

Oh and got pick pack and collect instead of deliver , ordered online with asda and used the price comparison voucher of £4 from last week aswell

I have meal planned for the month and for a change we are going to do one big shop and top up with fresh fruit etc. We are going to try Aldi, never shopped there before, it is a bit of a drive. Are there any items to definitely try or steer clear of?

  • I'm in again! Last month I set a target of £28 per week, and came in below that at £99.20 for the month out of £112.00, so I think I'll squeeze it down a little more to £27 per week for October. I do a weekly Saturday shop, five of those to come, so £135.00 target for me please!
