Back to the ironing for me first day have been able to face it my hands have been no good for anything most of the week I definitely overdid it last week and weekend. I was very grateful for info on Orphan Black on Wednesday as it forced me to rest, I watched all 10 episodes. :o

But felt so much better for it yesterday. :T

    I have a question!
I picked up some Thermal Blackout curtains a few weeks ago but have been a bit tardy putting them up. They are the ones that don't have a lining but the backs are covered with like a fleece.

I've never had curtains before without a lining and am worried that these will be cold in the winter. They'll probably be OK in the summer to keep the light out so should I save them just for the summer?

At the moment I've got 2 identical pairs of curtains up in the bedroom - that's 2 pairs of lined curtains sewn together as I wasn't happy with the thickness of them when they arrived - they were cheap BUT I think that's why they were SO cheap & it wasn't a glitch as I thought. I've also got a fleece lining the curtains. I don't particularly like the curtains so am wondering what to do.

    1. Should I keep the old ones up for winter - all 5 layers of them.
    2. Will the thermal ones be that warm? I have my doubts but have never had thermal/blackout ones before.
    3. Should I splash out & buy some heavier lined curtains that I really like, maybe buying thermal/blackout linings? I can afford to do this.

    Suggestions & answers appreciated.

Sounds like the fleece is the thermal bit to keep the warmth inside. How drafty are the windows? Are they double glazed?

I always make my curtains because our windows are fairly big. I always use a fairly substantial cotton fabric for the main curtain and normal lining (I hang the lining separately so I can wash it easily). I have not come across ones with a fleece back before so cannot judge what they would be like.

I guess part of the question is what are your windows like, are they double glazed, are they thermal glass? Strikes me that you could be overdoing it with the curtains, you won't necessarily get that much better insulation with more layers of curtains.

Sarah I'm sorry to hear about your friends grand daughter. How desperately sad. :(

Not much going on here. Went out to Wilkos yesterday with my DS, gosh was tired afterwards. Still not had a pre-op appointment, although going to try phoning as now have the number.

My car is booked in for MOT tomorrow. I also ordered some new tyres. Has anyone heard of black circles? My FIL told me about them, you get clubcard points for orders. You can pick where you want the tyres fitted, so I picked garage I would normally go to for tyres. I phoned them direct to check price, and they couldn't get near the price of black circles, so hopefully I've got a bargain. Seems like a good deal, price includes fitting, balancing etc. Just hope tyres arrive before my MOT at 11.30, as won't pass without them!

    Good afternoon Elite :hello:

    Glorious sunshine here again :j

Well done bubbs with the soup find, I hope those that wanted some got it ok :). Nice to stock up for the winter ahead. I didn't bother as I don't use those things. I make soup from scratch with home grown veg when available. :)

Missed the boots stuff but never mind, I seem to have amassed a good stock of Yankees from boot sales etc , some for pennys. I got a large jar last week for £1,50 unopened :j

Nannylala, I've not seen you post since yesterday morning, hope you are ok :A

Enterprise, I have your sneezes now  my cold is getting worse. Coughing and sneezing and wheezing so much my ribs are sore. It does not help that I'm asthmatic :o

Happy shopping Elite, I'll watch from the sidelines today as spending time under the duvet :)

Feeling down? Weak in body? Makes no difference to me, I think of you all when I'm sitting quietly.

Hugs and healing thoughts are always going your way.

Headlights usually cost about £8-10, side lights about £5. Or AA universal bulb kits usually do the job (and cheaper):

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0046RDLPO/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=569136327&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B003E6K1LK&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0QEGZ5QAJC32697R635C

    Hope that helps :)

Halfords will fit it for you for about £18 upwards including bulb. Just drive uip to their fitting point in their car park.

The windows are a bit drafty, probably more cold than drafty though IYKWIM. I need to get around to having double glazing throughout but am waiting until hubby is feeling better & is though his ops. before I do so. They are all aluminium single glazed. :( When I bought the house from new I asked for UPVC double glazing but builder wouldn't do it - even when I offered to let him keep windows & I'd source & pay for the UPVC DG ones. It just seems now too much hassle to have everything replaced, I need new kitchen & bathroom too so am hoping to get it all done at once & maybe go on a cruise/long holiday to US while it's being done? Hubby has to have his back & knees done before we can do this. I also have to find a builder who I can trust before it's all done - there is no way hubby could put up with dust & we need doors blocked up/re-positioned too.

Is it worth getting some of that plastic cling film sort of stuff you put on the inside of windows to add a layer to it? Might be worth trying the fleece curtains out and see how you go.
