Last week's family bought doughballs too....I must say I can't understand the attraction! What's meant to be so delicious about them?
I'm sure they've learned to love them in Pizza Express and now like to replicate them at home but posters are right that it's just more stodge as well as the pizza.Doughballs were an old fashioned filler-upper, to fill up hungry people who could not afford a lot of meat.
I remember them well but back in the day when people did more physical work in and outside the home the extra carbs were burned off. Not so now.0 -
Dumplings were added to stews and casseroles when I was little to fill up the gaps left by the lack of meat Steak and kidney pudding did the same job0

And even today I prefer the dumpling, veg and gravy to a meat laden stew
I dont like spuds so Im more then happy to omit them and then mop the plate with a bit of bread. Hubby thinks its so common lol but its a childhood comfort thing0 -

For some meals, I just have a dumpling! I love them.

I thought they were a really nice family this week - they may have been acting up for the telly but the kids seemed really supportive and keen to try new foods. I was really surprised at how eagerly they tucked into some of the dishes!0

Tbh I rarely buy fruit and veg is hit and miss. I don't like it as veg beside meat on a plate but however I do buy veg for certain veggie dishes. I did enjoy this programme as they did show veg being cooked in ways I would enjoy. I also make at least one veggie soup a week to help me dying of scurvy lol
Veg is also not very popular where I work. I'm educating myself and also having to educate the servers in how veg can taste good when cooked differently from what they are used to. Sundays soup was curried parsnip and I was greeted with cries of " don't like parsnip" yet they all had a bowl, decided it was scrummy and sold it to our customers0
