Good night everyone, sleep well.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Not quite sure how to post this but a topic that keeps popping up is a bit of a penguin for me. However, I can see it is helping others to post about it so don't want to deprive them of that chance either or make them feel they can't post about it because of my silliness (and it really is silly).
Putting it in penguin brackets probably wouldn't help either because my OCD means I have to read everything, including the penguin bits! :rotfl:
Maybe I will treat it as a test and see how I get on and if it gets too much and I feel that triggers are going off, to click away from the thread for a short time until the feeling passes.
Putting my big girl knickers on, I can be strong. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Difficult one Sue, not quite sure how we'd tackle that one!
I've only recently managed to stop myself reading penguin bits, and did that by convincing myself that there was so much other stuff to catch up on the thread that it gave me an opportunity to skip some bits!0 -
Sorry to hear that, SingleSue.
Would it help to discuss it? WaS is a past master at dealing with triggers, so she may have some constructive ideas. :A
I'd hate to think of you de-hovering without having some help or at least, some understanding.(I just lurve spiders!)

It's ok, it's one of my last deepest darkest secrets. I rarely talk about it, mainly because if I do, people rarely believe it of me when they look at me..almost like what I am telling them is being taken with a huge pinch of salt.
I've never really been a talker when it comes to personal bits, I tend to stick it in a drawer in my mind, shut it firmly and then lock it with a multitude of locks so it is never seen again. I've tried counselling several times but we never got very far because I would only talk about the stuff that I could handle mentally and without breaking (I don't 'do' crying in public or with strangers). It's why, when my mood decreases, I tend to withdraw and stay silent than post or talk to someone.
It has worked against me in the past, once almost spectacularly badly for the family as it wasn't believed that something that was happening could be happening because I was too cheerful i.e I wasn't sitting there in floods of tears like everyone else...it led to me being suspected of being munchausen by proxy for a very short time (until proof was shown that it was happening) and ultimately, led to my breakdown as everything was kept inside.
The other thing is I don't really want to say what it is that is a bit penguin as it could then make those posting about it feel awkward about it, I would feel even worse if someone felt they were the cause, or they were unable to talk about it and that then made their problems worse because of being unable to talk about it...I hate hurting people just as much as talking about stuff.
I debated for ages about posting about my 'issue', still not sure if it was the right thing to do as now every time someone posts, they are going to be wondering if it is the penguin cause...arrrggghhh, maybe I should just delete it now.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. Don't feel you have to delete it - it was brave to post in the first place.
I'm with you on having to read the penguin bits, although in my case it's just nosiness.
There's potential for a lot of things to be a trigger for someone, I don't think it's possible to avoid that without making the thread a bit of a shadow of itself. So if you do think of anything that might help, just say, otherwise do what's right for you. Big girl pants and all.:)All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
