  • Last nights party was nice, it was good to see everyone, and meet some of them for the first time. My cousins son was fairly friendly, although after an initial hug, he didn't really say much, and the daughter spent the whole time just looking like she wished she was somewhere else and didn't utter a word. The conversation was fairly stilted in parts thank goodness for my Mam who can start a conversation anywhere, as for a lot of the night around the dinner table there seemed to be large periods of silence.

It was a beautiful house they rented out. 2 lounges, one upstairs, one down. 4 bedrooms, each with an en suite. My Aunty was very impressed, and seemed to be enjoying herself which is all that matters. The main lounge had a lovely coal fire, so cosy! Although it didn't provide the evenings entertainment as it set the fire alarm off about 5 times!

MU, please don't try making Hello Kitty toast with foil! Sounds like a really good way to blow fuses or even get electrocuted! I'm surprised that such a dangerous idea is being circulated, even on tinternet

ETA - circulated ha ha ha! Circuitulated?

Can someone send a boot up the backside in this direction. For what remains of the morning, I am NVQing. Then I am spending the afternoon knocking on doors trying to persuade people to lodge objections to the superstore 50m away doing 24 hour opening.
Right now all I want to do is curl up and read my newspaper.

*gentle tap on elsien's bottom* (The next one won't be so gentle).

    elsien,

What some people in our area did about something they weren't happy with, was to doordrop an objection letter that people could fill in. I think they just had to fill in their personal details and personal reasons for objecting. (I can't remember if there was a list of suggested reasons). Then they had to sign and date it and either post it or drop it to one of the local shops. I think they put an envelope with it but not stamped. That took less time for everyone but was effective at prompting people.

That's what we're doing, WW. But due to shenanigans around planning notices, time is a bit pressing so we're hoping that people will fill in the letters and give them back to us, as otherwise if they do what I do and plonk it somewhere to do later then they'll probably miss the deadline. It's getting the right balance between prompting without pressurising and putting people's backs up.

I probably shouldn't be saying this because it is important, but the DOLS legislation bores me rigid. It's probably going to take me a while to get this unit done as the motivation isn't there. But I have just completed the first assignment, before WW ramps up the booting level of force.

Feeling like a terrible person today. Penguin about death

My aunt is in hospital again and has lost her sight. She really doesn't have long to go now and all my siblings, even the really selfish ones, have been to see her. And I know I should go, but I don't feel emotionally strong enough. Which makes me a horrible selfish person as I should put that behind me so I can say goodbye.
