Stay up with him till 3 am? When you're working full time? Sorry melly, I don't think that's realistic unless you want to end up in hospital as well - it's putting both of you at risk. Or have I misunderstood?

Certainly opt for SSRI's or similar Melly, not the older antidepressants. They are all pretty similar, it is trial and error really to see which one works best but you might get one that works for you first time. My american friend started on Citalopram and it worked like a charm from the first week and she has taken it ever since. They are also very good with ED on a positive note, mine got easier to manage when I started taking them and my anxiety reduced by a lot. They shouldn't turn you into a zombie at all, and you will be started on a low dose and they will be increased if you feel you need them to be. They take a few weeks to fully start working and you might be a bit sleepy, headachey and foggy the first week but anything that makes you worse than that means swap to a different one.

    Do they work on anger?

They work very well on anger, I stopped having bursts of rage when I started taking them and was able to think things through more calmly and slowly. In that way they slowed my thought processes slightly so rather than freaking out about something I would have time to think before I reacted. They shouldn't blunt any feelings other than anxiety or anger though and they don't 'cure' you as such, they just stop the emotions feeling so overwhelming and give you a breathing space. If they are working correctly you still be very much you, they will just take the edge off kind of like a pill version of counting to 10 and stop the panicky feelings taking over.

Melly, as a H&S professional you must know that a 12hr shift after a couple of hours sleep is just not safe. Not to mention driving.

    Melly,

I took Citalopram did not help with anxiety. now on sertraline. Which is helping with the anxiety but not the bad thought that I have done something wrong.
