Maybe looking awful will get you some help, melly. Sorry that it is so bad. Good luck with your appointment.

Aw hugs, Melly. Often with therapy things feel worse before they get better because all of the fears and helplessness you have kept squashed inside starts to come out and it can feel very overwhelming. The living situation certainly won't be helping either. Your poor OH, I have been where he is and blamed myself for everything while feeling that I am under a microscope, I do feel for him. When I went through that stage and started to face how I really felt and how much I hated myself I remember my psychotherapist said to me "I never promised you a rose garden". Indeed she didn't. Is your OH on any medication temporarily? Some of the SSRI's work not just with all the self-hatey feelings but with OCD too.

If he can get through this stage the next one is healing though, as long as safeguarding is in place and you are BOTH receiving support things should start to improve soon. It's essential you feel supported too. Go hug OH and Alan for me please.

No personal experience but I read some interesting blog posts about it by Joanne Thompson, founder of Millie's Trust.

I think it can be quite effective. Worth a go if it's offered to you!

Thanks tea, just had a look but not something I can really read at the moment.
I've been offered 8 sessions of it, so trying to work out what it actually is!

I have had EDMR, Welly and found it very helpful. It works on the basis that when we get anxious or something bad happens to us it keeps going around and around in our head and our brain can't file it away because we keep reliving it. So the brain gets stuck with the thought or memory making us miserable. EMDR uses a technique to help the brain file the bad thoughts away so that we can move on from them. This is often done by reliving the experience or thought and recognising how it affects one's body with a therapist and they will either get you to watch something (often their finger) moving your eyes from left to right or more rarely tap on your knees to cause the same back and forth feeling. This helps the brain file away the thought by putting it into an almost hypnotic state which stimulates it into 'let it go' mode and gives relief.

It sounds a bit odd but it does work and quite quickly. I would definitely say go for it. It works particularly well with PTSD and constantly recurring negative thoughts that produce anxiety.
