This might be a penguin for some, but I want to write to celebrate Jack Munro's latest post (it's about transgender). I specially want to write in case it helps any other transgender people post on here feel welcomed and included* - hoping this isn't a penguin for anyone.
Jack is a complete hero of mineand his sex is irrelevant - he's done a wonderful job of raising awareness of poverty and its effects (including effects on mental health).
Hope I got all the pronouns right - I'm not experienced in transgender issues and hope to learn more as Jack's journey continues (he's already posted a helpful link to journalistic style and the blog is here http://agirlcalledjack.com/2015/10/22/please-dont-call-me-a-girl-called-jack-i-have-something-to-tell-you/)
*Let's be clear. I don't think that transgender is a mental health issue, but am are that lots of LGBT people do have MH issues - no doubt partly caused or exacerbated by the treatment they tend to get from the media and some sections of society. Welcome, if you'd like to join us on this thread :beer:Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Really good idea, JM, thank you for that!
There have been a few programmes on the TV recently about transgender issues. Very enlightening.(I just lurve spiders!)

I'm going to go out on a limb here. I still don't like Jack Monroe regardless of their gender. Still think they're smug and partly responsible for the price of value products increasing. It's a brave move but I'm not changing my opinion of them.
I would also like to kick Jamie Oliver in his stupid face but that's a separate issue.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -
Jack Monroe's interesting - I admire their charity work, outspoken-ness and absolute utter refusal to give up under any circumstances...but equally I'm not sure I'd want to go for a pint with them as I find them abrasive.
EDIT: Well done Gitdog! Elsien that is such a cute photohe is a sweetie!

Well done Gitdog!! Maybe there is hope for Little Sod yet...
So sleeping still isn't happening, but despite only getting two hours last night, me and Escapette made it to our first baby group. Realised when we got there that she had been sick on the back of her own head and in her ears (no idea how!), so I put her hat on. We got lots of complements on her lovely hat (which I think was mum code for 'why is your baby wearing a wooly hat indoors'...).
Was totally out of my comfort zone but glad we went.
Hope everyone else is OK today. I'm making flapjack later so will drop some in to the fort.
Need to think of a costume for going to see the new star wars. People we are going with have put so much effort in that my idea of a brown bed sheet just won't cut it!!0 -
Hooray for New mum, new baby and naughty dog achievements!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Well done Gitdog!
I also hope that trans individuals will feel comfortable here and able to ask for support. Please do forgive us if we get the vocabulary wrong, I do try to keep up with it because the last thing we would want to do is offend anyone but please do correct us with whatever terms you feel most comfortable with. Everyone is always welcome to join us, we try never to judge. Also I agree with JM that being trans is certainly not a mental health issue.
Well done on going, Welly! Give escapette a snuggle from me too, please for also being brave!
I have a reoccurring cluster headache, they do that, being called cluster headaches. they really are the oddest thing, they start when I am asleep and it feels like I have just hit my head over my eye on the corner of cupboard, the pain is that sharp. Standing up gives lots of relief but then sitting down brings it back so I am up and down like a yoyo. Hi all
Gitdog is far too cute! I've always had animals apart from the last 4 years I've lived here, and I think you've given me the impetus to get this move done and get a little pet.
Onomotopiea (I've not spelled it right I don't think) - I work from home (total luxury of not having to commute) so will be working during and after the move, and over christmas. I just let things get to me a little, and its the upheaval of moving. and thank you for taking the time to reply, it is appreciated.
Code - thank youI can be a right so and so sometimes (its the anxiety I think).
Massive hugs to all, thank goodness it's Friday! Have a wonderful day0 -
I am feeling utterly crap. I feel wiped out and I just want to curl into a ball and not deal with anyone or anything. Dont even have the energy to cry. Hmm, as I have a massive headache, I feel dizzy and hot and cold and I just want to sleep, I'm guessing I'm fighting off a virus. Don't worry. I am wearing a hazmat suit in the fort.
I have loads to do this weekend - I wanted to get my nice newly renovated room back together and put shelves up, hang curtains etc. We also need to go and buy a new carpet and paint for phase 2 of work.
I forced myself to go out at lunchtime and get some wool to finish the blanket I'm crocheting. It's the first time I've ever made something that isn't a scarf so it's a bit rubbish bit I'm determined to finish. If it's too rubbish to use at home I'll send it to the rescue place where we got DA dog as they always want blankets and towels.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0
