At least think through the logic of your argument. Before getting over excited.
you can get a 10% deposit mortgage and where there is a will there is a way
I know one couple who got married late last year both earn min or very close to min wage and bought a 3 bed terrace just before getting married both in their 20s for a little under £100k
good for them, waiting for 50% off so a house costs the same as a loft conversion is not going to happen within our lifetimes
(unless you live in stoke on trent, where houses do cost as much as loft extensions now....)0 -

The fact is on a site like HPC there is a bias on the falling of house prices, nobody denies this. The reasons range from unfairness, greed, priced out, gambling, speculation, shortage of housing, the list is endless and in so many ways some of them are not to dis similar to you lot.
You also have people who have never been able to afford, can and won't, people who sold to rent in 2005 and late 2015 and some in this middle years, parents who love their kids, again the list goes on.
Now I could stomach the views of a lot more on this board if they would at least be honest enough to admit that they shout down any argument on the good house price falls could achieve, right or wrong, simply because they would benefit from it and they really do not careless what creed, circumstances, sexual orientation or moral stance the critic is.
Basically stop hiding behind a stereotypical HPC poster as there is not one along with the 100'000's if not millions of critics of high house prices.
There are roughly a dozen or so posters on this board who try and undermine views using the oldest and sickest method of all, and that is to dehumanise people in order to cancel out an argument. Poster on HPC are probably no more bitter, angry, stupid, brighter, delusional, hypocritical or any other name you would like to tag them with than anyone else.
I find it hilarious that Hamish`s back yard is now crash central, you really couldn`t make it up....:rotfl: He is still winning though, because he will just BUY MORE PROPERTY, and those nasty little renters at HPC be dammed.....:rotfl: Just too funny really.0 -
Mistermeaner wrote: »'Would lower prices be beneficial for large parts of society?' Is a separate question to 'are house prices going to fall?'
Any of the 4 permutations to those 2 questions could represent a valid opinion
I don't understand the animosity
Personally I would say: yes, no.
Edit: as others have pointed out and I have said before low prices of a crash would no use to anyone if they are a result of significant economic distress - regional examples abound: Aberdeen seems a common example, if prices crash there because the oil industry dies why on earth would you want to live there, with no job and likely poor services..... those places exist already in Liverpool and the Welsh valleys. Crashes will not happen in nice prosperous places.
Have you ever been to Aberdeen or surrounding area?0 -

Will you still be celebrating if the UKs economy goes the way of Aberdeens oil industry and thousands of people lose their jobs.
Possibly. If Crashy works in a sector unaffected by the downturn in the oil industry - which might mean in the public sector, or a local office of a national business - then damage to the biggest local industry will bring personal benefit. This is pretty much the default HPC position - to wish for economic harm to befall others so as to benefit oneself - so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise.
The question is whether crash trolls haven't thought about this or whether they have and couldn't care less.0 -

He says to several MSE regulars, at best.
Just put two posts on HPC in the last 24 hours and had close on 20,000 views
There is an audience and movement for a greater moral right than your small tiny little group :rotfl:0 -

you seem to think the landlords and others who think prices are not crazy high are your enemy. The reality is that most people are decent and good and want things to be good for everyone. The general view here seems to be that
1: prices are not absurd everywhere in England
2: Prices in London are high but this is explained by very high population growth and low build rates in the capital
3: The solution to the problem is build more homes especially in London
I do not think any of those views are radical or wrong.
On the other side of the fence, you have hpc which is as you say a much bigger bag of with a diverse views but on the whole its a group that seems to think prices are absurdly high (virtually everywhere) and that prices need to crash 30-80% for 'sanity' to return. I suspect your mr pizza are an extreme of that club. You are more than welcome to stay and put your views and arguments across but your posts like the one above are worthless so at least try to have a discussion or debate.0 -

No one is dehumanising anyone. What sticks in most right minded folks throats are all the pathetic gleeful posts over on HPC goon central where they actively celebrate wishing other people misfortunes. Usually the hard working young families whose only crime was to knuckle down buy a house and get on with their lives.0

What is your opinion of hard working families who knuckled down to save a large deposit and saw working hard as not being enough, places just got further out of reach?
What is your opinion of the people on this board who have actively expressed delight at the 2008 crash and how profitable it has been for them?
What is your opinion of these same people who have expressed hope for another crash so they can profit further?
Certain posters on this board, yourself for example, are actually the same people as those on HPC that you despise, just on the other side of the bet.0
