Well. I've just checked my invoice and I seem to have been charged £31 for a 4hour UK national call. I have emailed customer service who will hopefully rectify the problem........

OFFICIAL INSERT (1312 PM, 12/5/05)

As has been posted below, Call18866 have announced the following on their site

UPDATE fault 12 May - 30p UK calls
Unfortunately a fault has caused UK calls to be temporarily priced at 30p per minute. Obviously this is incorrect as we aim to be a price fighter! The fault has been rectified and all calls will be rebilled at the correct price! So there is no need to email us at this moment in time as all calls made at the incorrect price will automatically be reimbursed!

So hopefully it will all be ironed out for everyone who seems to have been charged way over the top. Let us know below if you hear any more news.

What's going on with 18866.co.uk. I just went to make a phonecall and it said 30p per minute for a UK call on a landline to landline call. I did just change over to Onetel's free package for evening calls etc and cancelled on BTs friends and family thing so what's happening. Has the bottom finally dropped out of 18866.co.uk, all good things come to and etc. or not.

I've just looked on the site and in the listing of countries, UK etc is not there:eek: so what the heck is going on when the announcement tells me that I'd be charged 30p per minute???????????????? for a UK landline to landline call.

I used the special 0808 1701 701 override number which I shouldn't need to use as I did say to Onetel that I didn't wish to go to them for line rental and that also said 30p per minute etc etc so what the heck is going on.... Does anyone know.

Looked at the status of my onetel account and it is currently being transferred over, shall take about 2 weeks. Got a date of 17th May for when I make calls with them so I'm wondering.....

I went to make a phonecall a little while ago on 18866 and the call charge stated 30p per minute whichever way I dialled the call. It was a UK landline to landline call. Yesterday evening was fine, 0p a minute as usual. I checked the 18866 site and it doesn't have the UK in it's list of countries anymore. What I think may be happening is that they are changing it over to 1899 now, so you are getting charged 3p connection on 1899 and out goes the 2p connection on the 18866 service, so an increase of 1p a call but still the cheapest from what I can make out. If anyone is still getting 0p a minute/2p connection, great, hang in there but I'm using 1899 from now on as 18866 at 30p a minute is madness. Check your online billing etc to make sure of your charges. Also make sure that your price per minute announcement is on as 30p a minute is outrageous.

Sounds a bit wierd - it should actually say 0p per minute (its a 2p connection fee)?

I take it everyone is on 2p a call for 18866 then? I just tried it again and it is still 30p per minute, not per call, per minute. Just using 1899 from now on at 3p per call.

I just tried a local call with 18866 and was shocked to hear 30p a minute. Tried a few times but still the same. Went with 1899 instead. What's going on?!

Same here - 30p/min for all UK calls I tried :(

Just use 1899 at 3p per call, 1p more per call but still cheapest.

  • HI

I don't know if 18866 have a technical problem but I have tried using it this morning and the tariff message says calls cost 30p per minute!!! Not the usual 'free call' message.

This is for calls withing the UK to landlines.

I have checked the website and it still states that calls are just subject to a 2p connection fee but a FAQ does state the the tariff message is always correct.

I thought I had better warn people as it is possible to disable the tariff message so you wouldn't be aware of the price hike.

I am hoping this is just a temporary issue? Any one know anything?
