I've been wearing my Canterbury Supertreads for about six days now.

My back, legs, ankles & feet are absolutely killing me!:(

Also noticed the skeepskin inside getting very 'clumpped' & shedding quite a bit.

Is this normal with ugg type boots(the aches & the sheepskin issues)?!

Emailed Hartings on Monday re whether an extra pair of insoles would make them a little smaller & therefore more wearable-no reply.:(

Think you need to kick these boots into touch and stop wearing them. Ill fitting shoes whether they are too big/small are going to cause problems. Really sorry to read about all the issues that you've had with your Canterburys:(

I wonder if would be a good idea to contact Canterbury Leathers ( Manufacturer ) and inform them of all the grief you have experienced, maybe they can sort this out. There is no doubt in my opinion that their sizing guide is way off ...hence the reason why I have two pairs of their boots!!

I can't afford to kick them in to touch! So far they've cost my OH £86(boots, return postage & a second pair of sheepsin insoles) They are meant to be my xmas present so I can't just stop wearing them-makes me look like a right ungratefull cow, doesn't it?!

I suspect that Canterbury would just refer me to the retailer; Hartings, to resolve the problem.

I would email Hartings but doubt very much they'd give two stuffs as they haven't even replied to my email about an extra set of insoles!:(

You managed to get some that fit(eventually), Miss Diva, so it must just be me!
  • Are sheepskin insoles pretty generic or should you try and get ones that are specific to the brand of boot you have?

I have insoles from celtic sheepskin and they fit perfectly in my LFAs but did not fit my Uggs as well (I had to chop a little off) they seemed fine to me at half the price I'd rather chop the skins a little rather then pay twice by getting them from the Ugg store.

ah ok brilliant- and do they feel just as comfy? and- tho this is blatently a stupid questions- I'm guessing you would buy size 8 insoles to put in a size 8 boots to make then feel more like a size 7 or 7.5 right?

no its not a stupid question. I have size 6 boots and bought size 6 insoles. I also bought size 6 insoles for my size W7 uggs (UK 5) as the soles pretty much match the LFAs I have (maybe a few mm smaller) but they did need some chopping with the Uggs (but nothing like a whole size) they did not need any chopping with the LFA boots.
The one thing I would say is that they are quite thin and I would even say if your using them to make boots slightly smaller, get a pair of cheap insoles and glue them to the celtic sheepskin ones as they can wrinkle slightly when in the boots. The are very soft though and do last well.

Missingink, I certainly wouldn't just let this matter drop. Why should you? Maybe it's worth writing to Hartings, rather than emailing them - recorded delivery perhaps so they can't say they haven't received your letter.

Just explain that you've done your best to just get what you ordered and paid for - a wearable pair of boots. And despite all the huge inconvenience you've been put to, you're left with boots you are totally unable to wear. Probably due to discrepancies in their sizing system, but that's not your fault, is it?

I'd even write to a New Zealand newspaper if I had to!Or do they have Trading Standards or equivalent over there?

It's not as if the boots were cheap, after all! Don't give up on this.

I really do hope it works out for you.

Missingink, I agree with Zaksmum. It seems such a shame especially seeing as the boots are supposed to be a gift but you should waer the if they are causing you discomfort. I'd get in touch again because there is clearly some kind of fault with the sizes if they are that big with you and Hartingtons don't seemed to have provided you with any decent customer service skills what so ever. If the fault had been yours to start with it would go some way to understanding why they have been unhelpful but even in that scenario they should try and do their best. I'm generally not someone to kick up a fuss but in your situation I think a fuss is exactly what's needed!

Does anyone know if the Sketchers shearlings are big size-wise?

I know they're just sheepskin lined rather than twin faced sheepskin (wondering if this will affect sizing too?) but I only want a cheapish grey pair of uggs to wear occasionally with a couple of outfits.
Already got some black LFA's (love em :D) and chestnut and chocolate bearpaws.

The wife is a size 5 but she got a size 4 in the skechers short artic shearlings and they fit perfectly. She says they are toasty warm too and for £39.99 (at the time) they were a steal. 25% of the cost of short ugg boots (the only type that aren't pig ugly)
