Hi all, I'm hoping someone can clear up a few queries for me:

First of all, my daughter wants a pair of tall Uggs - she's a uk 4, but always growing! What size uggs should i get. Also, for all of those of you who have bought the tall uggs from Rei - what ahve they actually ended up costing you inclusing the customs charges etc?

Thanks in advance...

It was £8 for VAT and customs duty and £13.50 for parcelforce's fee. If you look on the website for HMRC it says that VAT is payable on girls sizes over 3.5.

As I said before, its 5.5 NOT 3.5. Here is the text from the following link:-

http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageVAT_ShowContent&id=HMCE_CL_000138&propertyType=document#P19_915

Other girls’ shoes: up to (and including) size 3; and sizes 3½ to 5½ as long as the heel height does not exceed the sole depth by more than 4 cms (approx 1⅔ inches).
4.3.1 American and continental sizing equivalents
UK

American

Continental

Boys 6½

7 (unless 7½ is marked as equal to UK 6½)

40

Girls 3

35½ (35 if no half sizes)

Girls 5½

7

38½ (38 if no half sizes)

Customs charges on kids boots.....

I posted a few days back but I have actually spoken to customs and they have told me that even on kids boots there is a charge of 17% duty and 17.5% VAT. I questioned that these were childrens boots for young children (size 10 so toddlers) and she got quite shirty and blunt in her reply - there is definately a charge. I said I thought they were VAT free and was told no and this was twice by 2 different departments, the first was C&E enquiries, the 2nd was another department that told me the rates I would have to pay!!

If their website states different could someone post the link. The thing is, although they are VAT free then you might still have to pay Duties (17%) and a handling fee (£13.50 Parcelforce isn't it?) so that would come out at around £22.

They have quite clearly cottoned onto the fact we are all off buying overseas and know who is delivering what.

I am joining Costco tomorrow so I will report back on what I can find there for you.

Another thing is - can people not post what sizes/styles they have bought and do not fit, just in case people have them sitting around waiting to return or stick on eBay (maybe this is against the rules). I am really struggling to find a kids 3 in black or chocolate......... ;)

this is where I got the info but I might have missed something specific that excludes boots. Have a read and see what you make of it.
• I received my Tall Chestnut Uggs today from REI and am absolutely thrilled! they're great and worth every penny, even the customs charge!
ANGLEFIRE - The customs charge totalled £34.07 (this includes ParcelForce's) 'Clearance Fee' which was over £13.00) which i paid yesterday in order to get the boots delivered, but I have queried it as I think they charged VAT on the whole package (including shipping) which I'm not sure is right! Waiting for a response.
• I was really unhappy with my Tall Black classic boots from Aussie Direct so I emailed some pics to Ugg UK (AMG group) and also to Ugg Australia (thanks Mookie!) I photographed the boots ... but also all the "Made in Australia" tags and stickers and the single ply printed "Made in Australia" label (not the "normal" folded over embroidered one) also the soles, box and booklet. And I mentioned the nasty chemically smell - my Hartings ones smell lush! UGG UK have already said on the phone that they don't look right at all but say they want to look at the pics more closely before emailing me back. But I had this through from Ugg Australia this morning ... nuff said really.

It’s very murky ground for us to get involved in these types of disputes. I do know that we’ve had other reports of fake Uggs being sold from that site, but apparently some of them are authentic. That might be the only reason they’re still in business. From the description you gave me they definitely don’t sound like something we manufactured. I’m including some information that’s posted on the website of a trusted retailer to help explain the difference between real and fakes.

History...
In the nineties American company Deckers Outdoor bought UGG Holdings, owners of the trademark rights to the UGG and UGG Australia brands. Innovative marketing and design transformed the humble ugg from antipodean obscurity to international prominence. UGGs became BIG.
Aren't uggs Australian?
Not any more, that is unless you happen to live in Australia or New Zealand. Around here it gets confusing. UGG brand means the good ones from Deckers but anything else looking vaguely like a sheepskin boot is also an ugg. None of this would have been a problem except...
Internet changes everything
Until Deckers resurrected the name, sales of sheepskin boots were in decline. Suddenly a few small Australian companies discovered that inclusion of two magic words ugg and Australia was all it took to sell boots on the internet. Sadly many people have ordered these boots believing them to be the genuine article. Those we have seen are overpriced, of only average quality and despite the presence of a disclaimer denying they are Deckers boots, the similarity of names, labels and style can easily mislead.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at (888) 432-8530

So how come AD can refuse to refund postage and we're just supposed to accept their word that "they are genuine" - end of, when we say we're not happy ... and Ugg themselves say errrrrrrrrrrm, don't think so! Ideas anyone ... ?!
If you have ordered already and you have your doubts, I suggest you email some pics to info@uggaustralia.com
If you haven't ordered already ... you might want to read the above email from Ugg before you decide where to spend your money.

Hi Vix,

They are not charging the recipitant the VAT on the childrens boots, but Customs Duties of 17% (that is 17% total cost of boots + shipping). I spoke to the charging department earlier this week and they confirmed this for me. Also, because parcelforce 'has' to pay the charges for Duty before it 'leaves' customs then you also get the £13.50 charged by Parcelforce for their 'service'.

Quite clearly Parcelforce seem to be making sure they are cashing in and getting what they can from as many people as possible as, even as someone who used to receive a lot of returned merchandise marked 'clothing' at the customers retail cost from overseas, many packages used to come through without me being charged anything. I personally think they have stepped up their C&E department to make sure people cannot get items for much cheaper than over here because of the number of people who are choosing to shop where it is cheaper.

As are HMRC as they are NOT charging VAT on the childrens shoes and little things like this used to go through. VAT and Duty are seperate charges and are charged at different amounts. Also, VAT can be put through on your VAT Return if you are a business and are VAT registered the same as if you buy from a VAT supplier in the UK, Duty cannot so this puts the price up that you need to sell for if you are a retailer (if that makes sense).

It was how I explained a few posts back and the person getting charged from REI confirmed this as it was noted down as a Duty Charge, nothing for VAT and then the Parcelforce 'Fee'.

Hope that makes sense.

Its as we thought with them then, i dont know how they can carry on doing it  i read here some people have queried their boots and the order got cancelled so they know exactly what is going on.

Hi Mookie, yeah I know, it totally sucks and I'm really angry! All AD seem to do is email people saying "they are genuine" and say if you don't believe us, tough, we're not refunding your shipping  I paid $35 for express shipping with the box and it'll cost I reckon at least a tenner (or more registered?) to send them back ... and I can't ebay them. Well I could, by lying, but I won't.
So I lose £104 and give them away to someone who wants a dodgy pair or send them back and end up at least £30 down. And then Australia Direct presumably send them out to someone else.
The fakes are small compared to the real ones so the flippin things don't even fit. They have small legs and big fat clown feet :rotfl: I could always wear them and get a job on kids tv I suppose :(
