I would definitely not recommend using ClearScore for an accurate credit score.

I had Experian a year ago and my credit score was nearly perfect, I decided to check up on it earlier this evening but instead of paying £14.99 just to check I searched this website for a free credit score check. I went into ClearScore and nearly had a heart attack when it said my credit score was 357 out of 700. I then decided to just pay the 14.99 for peace of mind on Experian and there my credit score was 999 out of 999, one of them is completely incorrect- I just hope it is ClearScore!!

This is meant to be a moneysaving site. Have you not learnt anything yet.

As many on here have already pointed out the credit reference agencies are not the one who loan money. My score with Clearscore was 400 but this did not stop me getting a 3.4 percent loan from NW and a new MBNA 20 month interest free on purchases.

But, seriously, this does raise an interesting issue.

Just what exactly does a score of 999 / 999 mean in the real world?

I can't imagine anything short of the Bank of England having a real score (and there's a contradiction of terms if ever I saw one) of 999.

I would suggest paulaj86 also registers for Noddle reports to see what they come up with for a score.

I do agree, though, that ClearScore is great if you like things to be pretty but, for my liking, it's currently a bit short on accuracy - or maybe I just can't make sense of all those pretty icons they use to represent their data.

    I echo Mable's sentiments above.

My "score" returns back a Fair/Poor result (depending on which Credit Reference Agency you refer to) but Tesco Bank loaned me £7,500 late last year at the headline rate.

So in their eyes I might struggle to meet the repayments on my debt(s) or be offered above the rep. APR but Tesco Bank disagreed.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

Looking at my credit searches I notice there are a couple:

Search by NEXT PLC - WDB for Credit Quotation
    Searched on 20 February 2016

    and

NEXT PLC T/A NEXT DIRECTORY (DL) for Credit Quotation
    Searched on 28 November 2015

Anyone know what this could be? I have never applied for anything from Next (the shop) the only thing I have applied for recently have been Tesco credit card and Halifax credit card - maybe its a subsidiary of one of them?

... never bought anything from Next either in-store or on-line.

    Thanks

I would report this as an issue to Clearscore asap. It is possible that someone has tried to use your ID to obtain credit. This kind of thing is the very reason to keep an eye on your credit file - don't ignore it.

I have reported it, although don't expect much to come of my submission.
I notice it is a soft-search, so at least it isn't a hard search.

Soft searches may arise if you have used an eligibility checker. Even with a soft search, if it wasn't you creating the search then who was it and why? It needs to be pursued, in my view.

  • I have been using ClearScore for a short while now and took advantage of an offer I had 80% chance of getting. My credit history is poor but this did come through and I received my first credit card in years! :j

I regularly check my 'score' and in the past 6 weeks of using it my score has gone up by 10 points - the first time this has happened in a long time!

I would fully recommend using the app, this is the future in helping me mend my bad score.

how do these agencies work tried Noddle said i was very poor tried Clearscore says i am excellent surely there is some uniformity in these companies as they impact on daily life for many people and i find they are 3 months in arrears when it comes to credit info so all in all a waste of time
  • I tried Clearscore and it said that I was not on the electoral role at my current address which I believe can have quite an impact on a credit score. I checked and I have been on the electoral since moving here 3 years ago.
