Becca, wow, I am impressed. We keep saying we'll take the boys on a bike ride, I haven't been on mine for 7 years, it's only been used 3 times, downside is we were going to go somewhere quiet (so I could fall off with noone seeing me) for me to practise before taking them. My DS1 (8 buthas Autism and can't 'do' bikes, actually he's petrified of them) has a trailer now which we also need to practise using, DS2 still needs to imrove on his bike too. Suppose thats another problem we have, here it's all hills!
JillD with the wetting, my oldest is 8 now and only been dry completely day time (he may have another episode and has some night time accidents) for 6 months. Youngest is 6 and still has accidents. School are great with them and he has less accidents at school than he does at home. STOP WORRYING! I think basically with problem toileters, you can try to encourage, keep a diary of when they go/have drinks etc to encourage/make them go when you estimate they will need it, make them run around starkers to save on laundry :rotfl: had to mention as a friend does this, cut back the evening drinks etc but really a lot of it will just come when he's ready... School will have spares usually but you can ask, my son did come home in girls undies and bright red shorts (was snowing) so I started leaving spares, they'd used all there rest for kids who'd got wet from snow etc I think.
Pigpen, sorry to hear they played up a bit, hope there was still some good times
Well I've done some things, DP popped in from work for a 'little bit' which sort of interupted me sorting the bedroom out, I did get lots of laundry sorted out and put away, kitchens still a bit of a bomb site, boys played up before bed inc DS2 ending up bleeding everywhere after smacking himself in the face with something I told him to put down! I did however once they calmed down get them to take some of the laundry upstairs
saved my back a bit, also DS2 when asked put all the train tracks away (wanted to earn points!)
Overall not a bad day, done less than I should but more than I used to if that makes sense :rotfl:
Right off for a mooch then bed I think
how did you manage to get your ds1 toilet trained? my ds3is autistic too and 6 and a half. i had another smearing episode with him last night:( all over himself and his bedroom carpet:( he has no concept of when he needs to go at all and is still in nappies full time. am toilet training dd at the moment too and it constant clean ups around here (and the ruddy kittens too!) feels like im a one woman poop and pee cleaner at the moment!
any suggestions gratefully accepted!:DNovember NSD's - 70 -
most stuff packed and ready to go now.
mowed back lawn yesterday, moved composter, cut back a few bushes and moved the chicken house, clipped chickens wings and tidied shed:) i like to get all the garden stuff done on a saturday:)
atm its very quiet here, all kids still asleep so i get a bit of a browse and a cuppa in bed:D all i can hear is the kittens running about downstairs lol
going to strip all the beds and wash bottom sheets this morning so they will be all clean and fresh for our return! we are taking our duvets with us. will def think about having the duvets cleaned when they go back to school!November NSD's - 70 -
What a rubbish week!Gave up on flying on Tuesday and the house is a huge mess.Court on Monday didn't go the way we or social services wanted so yet another adoption route closed. Very disappointing to say the least, doesn't get any easier to deal with unfortunately.DH is tired and stressed over his dad and I'm doing my best to be supportive and play referee between him and DS as he's not being the most calm at the mo, but comments like 'I'm going to work because someone has to' don't help with my patience. I do work 3 days a week, but am lucky enough that my contract means I get the school summer hols off and look after DS. Right enough moaning, I'll have a more positive out look next week and start afresh tomorrow.Hope everyone else is ok as I've not read the thread, but hugs to those who need them....it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

oohps I just lost my post.
The short version. Wedding went ok, 500+ photos to sort through. Yesterday ended up getting involved with a rescue of a large number of rats from Portsmouth. I have 4 new boys here, then tomorrow we're going to get some more and take them up to a rescue in Surrey, including some females which will pretty much be pregant as all the cages have holes in and so there is a huge population explosion.
Today I need to blitz the house.

JillD got to say well done, blimey you've done loads since you started with us, I won't nag again about making sure you also rest as I know you have been.
Shirley sounds like you really have your hands full with all those little ratties, pleased to hear the photos went well.
Tinselfairy I am really sorry to hear that things did not go well, I hope things settle down soon at home, it can't be easy with all that is going on, I am sure stress levels are at a high, big hugs & don't forget we're all here if you need a moan.
Jamie, I think the only way I can describe it is with great difficulty when it comes to toilet issues, we also had the smearing, seems to have stopped now thankfully. I am lucky as my son has much improved on his speech and understanding of language however this did take until he was over 4.
We had PECS to help, toilet cards, big sign with a toilet on and an X through where he mainly did it, sitting room and in the bedroom. Big picture of a toilet on the seat of the toilet in the bathroom, cards which he could show when he needed to go, he actually used to like taking his and putting it on the one on the seat (attatched with a bit of velcro) then he'd bring it back down when he was finished and put it back on the board, just seemed to make sense to him. Leaving him without anything on helped greatly, couldn't take my eyes off him for a second anyway. Taking the nappies off in the day time I think was the best thing we ever did as he could no longer see it as that is where it is done, creatures of habit after all. If I put one back on him to go out in he'd wet it straight away. We had a chart in the bathroom where he earned stickers then at the end of the chart was a picture of what he would get when he filled the chart, you could see everytime he went he would go along with his finger counting how many times he had to go before he got his 'prize'. We had one giant hurdle which effected progress the most, that he wouldn't use anyone elses/anywhere elses toilet which we eventually overcame, he was just petrified of toilets.
Unfortunately there are some little ones on the spectrum who seem to just lack either the sensation to go or understanding of what the sensation is, sometimes it does click in as they get older. This makes it much much more difficult. My son still prefers to use toilet at home and I have known him hold it for 10+hours so he didn't have to go on someone elses.
I think it really is a case of finding out what works for your child, so many different angles to take depending what works. Ok many children on the spectrum are visual but also some aren't. Roz Blackburn is one of several Autistic adults who I have had the pleasure of meeting and she still has toileting issues even as an adult. I work on one thing at a time with my son, for example when I am dealing with a toiletng problem I just concentrate on that, then move onto the next thing after it's either dealt with or better forgotten and come back for another try later :rotfl:
Have you tried on www.asd-forum.org.uk for advice/support ? Some really nice people on there. Also do you get the nappies provided for you ? Our special needs health visitor sorted that out for me, saved me a fortune. Now we have the Kylie's bed mats which are great, just unfortunate it seems to go everywhere when he does it inc duvet etc so the lot ends up in the wash. Oh then the fun starts when you have a second with 'autistic traits' currently being questioned as to if he has Autism etc and it starts all over again
My washing machine is my best friend, oh and the vax for when it gets through the sheets.
Good book aswell Toilet Training For Individuals With Autism. Maria Wheeler well worth reading. You could have had my copy but I loaned it to someone and they have never returned it! Also have you looked for support groups in your area? Some can be a great source of help and support, I'm really lucky with the one I am involved with as the founder is extremely knowledgable about Autism (has an MA in it aswell and speaks nationally at conferences etc) and is very helpful.
My list, ah, bother, I knew I forgot something, will be back later with it
I need coffee! One day I might be more organised...........

Morning all, what a lovely day again.
Hugs to everyone who needs one, have just skimmed through the last couple of days posts. Pigpen welcome home we are short on thread pages coz you weren't here posting
On the toilet situation we have been lucky with both of ours but DS did take quite a bit longer than DD I put it down in part to the difference between boys and girls as well as every child being different. When DD started pre school a requirement was that she had to be dry and fortunately at 2 1/2 she was. When DS was ready to go they had changed the rules (and management) which was a good job as he was still in nappies. We tried several times in the school holidays to get him dry without success and then when DH died I figured that it was not the most important thing to sort. Finally in Sept he suddenly said 'I need a poo', I whipped down his pull up plonked him on the toilet and voila! Then we went through thestage of waving bye bye to DS's (and everyone elses!) poo and wee each time and cheering and whooping at each success :rotfl:Somehow you can always tell the non parents when you are out by the looks you get in public toilets when we cheered lol
WellI should get on and start with the ironing I suppose seeing as I have hardly done any in ages, anyone up for an ironfest?Official Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang

Ironing? What is this strange word?

Morning all
One load of washing out on the line (only one load today!)
Roast dinner started.
Just did a bit of cutting back in the garden and general tidying up while it was cooler, the sun has come out now and it's really getting hot.
Oh, and I vacuumed through downstairs.0 -
a&wsmum.. (w need a better title than that!).. I did all my ironing before we wen away or I'd love to join you (and I'd never lie) We have done the cheeing and clapping in public loo's as well.. fun isn't it!
JillD.. I got DD 5 pairs of school trousers and she never needed to change during the day.. it was really strange especially as she still wets at home. My youngest boy was 6 before he was reliably dry during the day and night too, he has aspergers and had had an op down there which the docs reckonned had damaged his nerves but it was very stressful for me, especially as the nursery were threatening to exclude him until he was dry.. and I was hugely pg with DD3.
When DD3 wets I just send her to change herself now.. what is the point making an issue? what's done is done.. I think that just stresses them and it makes them worse. I was more stressed when it was DS3 but that was down to the nursery not him.
All mine have run about half naked when training.. saves on washing wet pants and makes it easier for them to get to the loo when they need it. DD5 (3 in November) has just started wearing pants during the day as she can up and down them herself and she has been trained for months.. she did herself just before easter as she got fed up waiting for me to do it... she too will be dry before DD3.. DD4 has been dry for 3 years.. she is 5 in november and teeny tiny.
My mother commented onthe way the 2 youngest were dressed yesterday.. they are about the same size.. DD4 was dressed like 'a little girl' and DD5 was dressed 'like a baby apparently.. I said she is a baby and she is a little girl.. but. DD5 is a BIG baby and DD4 is a little little girl... it just seemed a really wierd thing to say.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

morning chaps, feeling tired today, not surprising, two late nights in a row, silly really. Hubby wants us all to go out for a picnic but I really dont think I am up to it at all. Plus when the sun is out its boiling, too hot.
Am determined to try and stress less about DS and the toilet. Itsso hard though, if I ask him to go to the loo, ir finish in the loo afterhe's wet himself, or get changed into dry thigs, he jusy ignores me and I can't seem to get through to him. Most of the big arguments are when I trying to get him to the loo or changed or whatever before we go anywhere. And I start the whole charade half an hour before we need to leave the house. Anyway, maybe if I try and stay calm he will respond a bit better, we'll see. I havent shouted today so far anyway!Jan GC: £202.65/£450 (as of 4-1-12)
