Here I go again...

Hi again,

It's been a while since i've been on this site but it's time to face reality again and get myself sorted.

Since my last diary, hubby found a job and seemed settled... he's about to start job number 4 so hasn't really been settled at all PLUS we have had a good number of bail out's for his sick time as he has an ongoing condition.

Previous diary (and massive determination) is here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4744818

Now, I am nothing but a realist and accept that where I am is due to my inability to sustain willpower and maintain control. (that and a bit of misfortune :( )

I want to get back on track and thinking back to when I was completing my diary (and PADding in a fervent manner) I felt so in control of my finances.

I have just switched my bank account to a cheaper one (inc insurances) as long as I can sort out proof of address! And have switched credit cards to 0% for a period where these should be totally cleared in the interest free period.

Baby steps...:o

I hope to not fall off the DFW wagon again and would really value any support you're prepared to offer.

Thanks for listening

  • I'm sending you good vibes and the best of luck, LMD. You can definitely do this! Climbing back on the wagon is the only part that really matters in the debt-busting game. :)
  • Hi belle, thanks for the words of encouragement!

I have to say I feel better already for coming on and posting (I've also made a PAD today as that was so addictive last time!)

I just hope that I can see it through this time... Myself and OH have so many dreams for the future but I can just sense my debts getting in the way!

  • Day off today so taking ID to the bank so my 7 day switch can start sooner rather than later.

I switched through TopCashBack and I've already logged on to make sure the £78 is tracking - it is! :T

PAD made too, just £1 today as yesterday's rounded my bank balance but every bit will help and is extra to what I was doing this time last week (eating a bacon and egg sarnie I think!)

    TTFN...

  • Hi LMD - thought I would pop in and subscribe, cheer you on along the way...
  • Thanks for popping by, everyone's welcome!

I'm feeling a lot better for switching my bank and transferring cards to 0%, I even had a good nights' sleep last night. Perhaps my eye-bags will get a bit better over the next few weeks too :)

Accompanied hubby on a run up north today as he wanted to go to an exhibition (he paid) and then spent some time in the garden.

I can't put off a trip to Mr T's much longer so I'll go as soon as it opens in the morning (armed with a list!) and then we plan to take the dogs for a long walk in the afternoon. Good old free fresh air ;)

    Speak soon

  • Hi all…

I’ve had an odd weekend, it’s not been spend free but there’s nothing frivolous in the purchases so I guess it’s OK. I am going away for the weekend in a couple of weeks and I’ve been saving some money in a separate account for that. Very much looking forward to it.

I’ve been PADding - £1.70 today towards the Halifax card… I know it’s only £1.70 but if I leave it in my account it’ll get spent and I like to round down my bank account.

The walk yesterday was lovely and we had a pint in the pub on the way. It was such a gorgeous afternoon that we spent the majority of the rest of the day in the garden too. Not to mention the 3x loads of washing I managed to get done and dry!

Had details in the post for my new bank account so I’ve got to find a moment to pop the completed forms back to the bank but I think I should be able to just post them through the branch letter box… might just call them to check!

Hubby is making dinner tonight so I might get chance to pop to branch whilst he cooks

Hope you’re all having a lovely Monday.

  • I like a PAD - it's completely addictive, and those little numbers soon add up.
  • Had a NSD yesterday (except my obligatory PAD of course :) )

Today I had to get a few bits from the shop but had a nice home-made sandwich for lunch so there's no unnecessary spending today.

I've dropped the last piece of paperwork for the bank account switch in at the branch so hopefully I will get my account set up shortly, I can start saving money on the account fee but also save the environment as my old bank didn't offer paper free banking :(

I'm also awaiting my new credit card so that I can transfer my balance to 0% interest. I'm still feeling in control and motivated to get cracking on the debt. It's so much easier this way, one day at a time, baby-steps I know but it all makes a difference in the end!

    I hope everyone's having a good day!

  • Finally found 5 minutes to update my diary, I'm still padding, although these are small until we get to the end of the month and I have been paid.

All of my account switching info has arrived and it should all be complete by the middle of next week. I've made sure I updated my details at work too, I don't want any delays on receiving my salary!:rotfl:

I've arranged my balances to be transferred and I'm still feeling massively positive and motivated to get my finances sorted once and for all. I'm also still enjoying the budget home packed lunches :)

My cash back is tracking and I have managed to persuade 3 friends to sign up to TCB too, this should give my cash back a boost. Always looking out for surveys to be completed, every little helps.

Everything has been really busy lately, both in and out of work, I've not had time to miss spending money. The weekends are the downfall and online shopping when hubster is on nights

    Must...stay...focused...!
