  • Hey all I'd like to join said club. I'm entering first year English at Queens University, Belfast. I'm returning to education after a few years traveling and working so I'm going to find it a struggle managing without my usual salary lol. Sounds like a really good idea this students club.

I posted a separate thread on here about Office 2007 up for grabs for 38 quid I bought it and its worth around 600 not a bad save eh? the website is https://www.theultimatesteal.co.uk for anyone who's interested.

Am also interested in the 1000 for nothing sounds like a challenge.

anyway hope to chat with ya all again soon :)

Wait until you get to campus, for instance I get free Microsoft XP Pro, Vista Business and Office from my faculty because they have a special MSDN license.

So you could save a further £38 still

Finally, where have you ever seen office sold at £600+ ? I never have

  • your right Ian I checked it out Office 2007 Ultimate doesn't retail at 600 quid I think that might have been dollars, it retails at 393.63 thats still around a 90% saving!! I wont be living on campus as I live nearby my Uni but there is always free wifi for those long days in the union :)

I go to university next week :o

    (Sorry - sudden realisation!)
  • I'm feeling a bit left out, so I'd quite like to join. I'm going into second year at Glasgow (about bloody time too! Five month holidays are too long). Last year I was pretty good with money but this year I'm determined to be a lot better. Gotta save up for all sorts of things.
  • I've been back for two weeks now. Overspent first week. Spent nothing this week because i am in the hospital (studying) all the time and i just don't have time to go to the shops! Just as well as my loan hasn't come through yet.

  • Grrrrr - We started this week - I had to skip induction on Monday as I had my graduation - great fun LOL. Anyway it was straight into lectures on Tuesday and we only enrolled today so no money until next Thursday at the earliest - Aaargh!!!!! Had to get Railcard and bus card etc etc plus trainfares and I'm so skint now!!! Especially as I just bought a load of books.! Can't find any I need cheaply on Ebay at the mo. but I did find a new booksite - well it's new to me anyway and I got a copy of the Ultimate FE Lecturer's Handbook for only !12 at the Book Depository - normally about 18 at Amazon - and Free delivery - wheeeeee - new book place :) Good hint to find the best prices is bookbrain. - it's a comparison engine thingy.

Also picked up my NUS Extra card today that I'd previously ordered online cos then you can upload a photo of your choice instead of a manky photo booth on - lol - so I had a nice Photo-shopped - unwrinkly, unsaggy me!!!!:rotfl::rotfl:

  • Luckily, I haven't had to buy any books yet - starting the technical side of my course on Monday though, so might end up having to pick up some bits after that. Know I'll have a workshop bill in around 5 weeks thought, so got that to look forward to!

And still waiting for loan to come through... A few of my class have had theirs, so just hoping it'll appear in the next few days :)

http://www.find-book.co.uk is also another good one to check out when hunting down the cheapest prices :)

also find-dvd and find-cd are in a similar vain :) remember 10% student discount @ HMV + 10% cashback via Quidco, many of the others on there also have cashback :)

You can probably get books cheaply off second hand book sites or from people in the year above. But I think people have said to wait until you get there for what you need.
