Preparing for Winter

In Asda's seasonal sale bit yesterday, I managed to get 'a bed in a bag' for two singles & a double. They are 10.5tog duvet, pillow, mattress & pillow protectors in a sort of drawstring bag that they are advertising as a laundry bag. Single size is £8 & the double with two of everything except the duvet was £10, so our old quilts can now go under the bottom sheets & we have nice new fresh ones to snuggle into
No1 claimed the 13tog double I had as a gift last crimbo but hadn't opened, so we're sorted bed-wise...even got bits for Pup's
I snaffled the last three £1:77 value fleece blankets for the offspring plus a cotton woven throw thingie that I'm planning on using as a curtain at the door...if not, I'll have it for my bed
So now I need to :-
line curtains or replace with thicker ones
find something to use as curtains in the bathroom & downstairs loo
defrost little freezer to restock with just veg
increase stocks of basic foodstuffs & look at instant mash  vs tinned spuds_pale_
Must admit that in all the years I've been responsible for my own home & family, I'd never given the changing of the seasons that much thought...makes me weep to even wonder how much money I may have had by now if I had of done
Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

picked up a couple of those asda throws the other day and realised they might make a nice lining for the kids curtains. Think I'll just get some safety pins and pin them to the back rather than sewing them. Yup I'm feeling lazy!!Debts - [STRIKE]£9925.64[/STRIKE] £8841.88 :T Aiming to get below £9k by the end of Oct.

beccatje I was feeling cold a few days ago and yesterday I started with a bad sore throat and today I am well and truly bunged up. Its that time of the year, only it has arrived early. Times like this, when I feel intraverted, that I am glad that I am so stocked up as I can do loads of meals with what is in my cupboards0

I worked nights all my life and if you get overtired you get a horrible kind of cold, where nothing will heat you. A hot bath and an early night beccatje!0

On an occasion where I was extremely cold at one point - though it was a hot summers night - it took me about half an hour to "thaw out". I had to use hotwater bottles AND hot drink AND lots of bedding wrapped round me before my temperature was back up to normal. So - I guess its a case of try everything at once - and it will probably take you 10 minutes or so before you're sorted
- and yes it possibly means you are ill.0 -
Thanks you guys. I sure hope I'm not ill. Don't have time!!
but then again, with 5 kids, a DH and a job I never have time to be ill!
I was cold all the way through dinner.. after which I put the littles to bed, had myself two stiff shots of fierce whiskey and wrapped myself up in a fleece on the couch with my knitting.
Feeling a bit better now.
Will go to bed early tonight though, just in case.

This is my fav thread! Even though it feels that Summer never really arrived, from the grey skies I think we are heading into Autumn already!0

It's a great thread !
We've not really had a Summer, apart from 3 gorgeous days when I went to the Isle of Skye and actually got a tan
I do love Autumn though - the colours of the leaves are amazing and the smell, oh I love the smell of Autumn, it's so fresh and earthy !0 -

me too.I'm actually back into a routine of walking my poor poochy dog again - he got a bit neglected with the horrid weather he refused to leave the house and with my 4 year old suffering from chest infections i couldnt really take him out other than a quick toddle round the communal garden we have but now we are back into our long evening walk and im loving it as much as the dog is. Its so nice on a woody trail we have near our house, all wrapped up watching him bimble in and out fo bushes nad the fresh air - cant wait till littlie is in full time school so i can get out with him more.
I'm loving the challenge of getting ready in time for the cold weather too. Oh i cant wait to really be in the depths of winter all snuggled up warmTime to find me again0 -
