Hi Beccah im in Newport too, small world isnt it? I had my cavity walls done last year and my loft insulated, it took 2 men about 2-3 hrs, it is very noisy when drilling but not messy.

lol i am from newport but moved up to cwmfelinfach but have now moved back to Newport. Very small world

I am eventually getting sorted for winter, had cavity walls and loft insulated last summer and have just had new jacket on tank and a new fire fitted. I have found the loft insulation very good, definately feel the difference upstairs.

    Lol

I was in St Athan when i lived with parents (dads a raffy) but then parents divorced, i met boyfriend and moved to port talbot to be with him, sister and mother still live on west camp though.

maybe we should have a welsh 'preparing for winter' shopping trip - somewhere mutual so we can all hunt for the bargains to help with the thread. All armed with some homemade bikkies and a flask of hot choccie!"

I'd love a welsh meet but i dont drive. Maybe we can get Weezl to tag along too as i knwo shes cardiff and In Search OF Me only lives near to her too.
    Time to find me again

East Midlands here, and I really do need to make a start... We've had a lovely sunny day today and it kind of makes me not want to think about winter. However, I'd rather do it now than have it creep up on me unawares!

I've been trying to find a nice pair of thick slippers. Ordinarily I go around barefoot, but since the OH doesn't like cold feet at night, I've decided this year I'll get (and use) some slippers. I've already got the thick socks now - when we went on holiday to Cornwall we went to the market at St. Austell and I managed to get three pairs of lovely fluffy socks for £1. Joy!

This weekend I must do a storecupboard inventory and at least make a start on the draught excluder for the small window in the living room. I must!
Continually trying the Grocery Challenge. Gotta keep trying!

 welshies are taking over the thread! Thanks all for the replies about the cavity wall insulation, it sounds like it should be fairly painless then. Its one of the last things that we have to do, along with some more loft insulation as we had a new roof and central heating system last year.
I think I'm going to follow the example of some other posters and spend the weekend going trough my kitchen cupboards, making an inventory of my staples and arranging an " In case of emergency" box with candles, batteries, tins of soup.....

I think we should find the best place to buy draught excluder and cling film for windows and put it on here. I need to start now as we have big north facing windows at the back and we are very high up and exposed.
I was laid low recently with M.E. and felt better yesterday, so got up all hopeful of getting on with things. Went to Tescos at lunch time,, bought a pastry, ate it and within half an hour I was violently sick, and kept on until after 7pm. Got up through the night to the loo and fainted. Husband going mad at me and tescos jointly, and I am deeply fedup because I'm right back to square 1...got housework and winter work piling up and cant cope.
  • I loved reading this thread last year, here is my list of things I need to do for this winter:

    1. Buy Thermal curtains for backdoor
    2. Buy fleece pyjamas and dressing gowns for the children - Done
    3. Slippers for everyone
    4. Make a rice bag for all the beds in the house
    5. Buy fleece blankets x 2 - Done
    6. Seal windows where needed
    7. Open new bank account specifically for energy bills - Done

Thats all I can think of for now, I will enjoy reading everyone elses plans.

Just thought I would update. Glad I've made a start as we have already had use out of the items as it is so cold!!
