I was hoping to find them on a good special off as it's summer, but no joy so far. I've also started putting money aside for the gas bill too, I cut it back by £100 pounds last year by dropping the temperature sensor a degree, and not having it on overnight. The year before was very bad with a small baby in the house and me all over the place and sleep deprived. However, I don't think there's many more savings to be made! I'll need to check up on gloves etc, but I expect the only new one needed with be for my rapidly growing toddler! He's got huge handmedown boots from his brother which should still fit fingers crossed.
This isnt a news article its in the forums on the website... theres weather enthusiasts giving their opinions etc.If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -
I was looking at our Cherry Tree yesterday, which the birds have stripped completely bare and was thinking it's going to be a very bad winter. They usually leave us a few pounds of cherries at least.
Last year we were iced in on our street so I ordered some of those non-slip ice cleat things from ebay, the only ones that hadn't run out came from the USA and arrived just in time for the thaw so I'm hoping to use them this year.
Don't say you haven't been warned!Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0 -
Just ordered online...various canned beans, oats porridge, canned tomatoes, some other canned veg to chuck into casseroles, sweetcorn, teabags, bread mix, cake mix, got a good discount and free delivery on the bread and cake mixes, Also have canned mackeral and tuna, corned beef. We already have the brighter daylight bulbs as I hate the dark. Got a few cardies off of the latest Tesco sale, got loads of scarves and gloves and beany hats, fingerless gloves, 4 hot water bottles, quite a few fleeces and blankets, thermal undies, fluffy bed socks, warm flannel pj's, warm flannel sheets and pillow cases, electric oil heater, gas heating, but only downstairs....stockpile of food and UHT milk, chillies homegrown and going to be dried, plum wine and soon to be, elderberry and also, blackberry wine, soap, loo rolls, dishwashing liquid, tissues, cough mixture, paracetamol, tinned fruit in juice, wind up torch, gas cooker and hob, electric microwave and halogen oven, blackout blind in kitchen and bathroom, that plastic lining on front doors and windows, to be replaced in October, door curtain, door sausage dog thingy to keep out the drafts, ........ gasp:)
Anything i have missed out, please let me know.

I think observing nature is probably the most effective way of predicting the weather.....not that I personally have a clue how to do that, but I wish I did! I will keep up with your posts Thistledome, to see if you observe more signs over the next while!
Thank you

Draft proofing is important. Those on benefits could get help to get cavity wall insulation, etc. It's always worth a try, as it will save you money in the long term.
