Read from page 3 to page 1 as it goes backwards but looking at the patterns and the weather enthusiasts it looks like winter is going to be worse than last year!

In case it's a help to anyone; I've just been having a look on the Debenhams sale pages online and they have some really good reductions on duvets:

food wise guess uht wont go amiss although hate the stuff myself

Was thinking maybe homemade draught excluders
some more cardies jumpers instead of putting on heating
candles and working torch in event of powercut
    matches

stock up on colds and cough medicines.

our fuel bill was awful over winter still paying it off now.

we always keep full stocks in for winter anyway
and i put an extra £10 away per week for winter fuel bills all through the summer in anticipation
i make sure there are candles/matches/wind up torches/radio in a box under the stairs as we have power cuts here in the winter

A box is a great idea for all those things. I am going to make that my weekend project.

As I need to loose weight, I have broken to dd that the unhealthy snack cupboard is going. The news didn't go down too well! I shall use the space to store suitable foods. Will check back and see if anyone adds some more ideas :). Last winter was so expensive, being more prepared than I was is very sensisible.

Were currently in a period of global dimming so mixed with that plus other weather trends its look a bad winter for us.

after last years winter when the shops here ran out of bread, fresh veg/fruit and milk, i tend to stock up on powdered milk and dried food.
Sainsburys do a basics one for £1.48 and its brill. Aldi does a fantastic array of UHT milk last year it was 98p for 2L.

Right now stocked up we have

4 hot water bottles for boys
2 very thick blankets for kids
    thick dressing gowns
    thick winter socks
    slippers
    extra duvets for they beds.
electric oil heater - life saver last year
Specialised winter dungarees x 2, i paid £8 for a pair out of matalan, exactly the make as the £150 ones stocked in nevisport. so peeps go there, didn't see any for adults but for kids there loads.Well worth the money considering we were out for 6 hours in the snow sledging and the only ones who got cold were me and my OH.
jumpers - all in the sale now
thermal woolly inner socks for wellies
sleeping bags for sitting in front the tv with and for in the car - you never know whats going to happen.

    Car box
    blankets / sleeping bags
    torches
    first aid kit
    car jack
    haynes manual
    spare tyre
    a flask of hot chocolate
    water
    snacks like crisps etc
spare clothing - lots of socks
    towels

As you tell last year we spent a lot of time out in the snow. As well as breaking down in and this is what we do now.

Just need to buy some thick winter coats, more scarfs etc and then we'll be done on the clothes front.
