Preparing for Winter

Ollie me OH has that along with cold stone tiled floors, no doors lounge to dining room or dining to kitchen and front door right next to the wall with the radiator on.... when I have been there over winter I have spent most of the day upstairs as it is the only place bearable.
omg  - it must be positively Arctic there- I have got a door from living room into the kitchen/dining room which is the warmest place in the entire house, PLUS we've got fitted carpet in living room and cushion-floor in the kitchen/dining room.
Hoping to keep the heating off until 1st Nov this year - gave in around the 28th Oct last year as we had 2 very young babies visiting regularly. This year they're toddlers and running about the place!0 -
Forgot to mention that in the Chesterfield Do It All they are selling the brass letter box covers with brush attached for 99p instead od about £12.
Also some draught excluders for the bottom of the doors (the ones with brushes on) for 49p
I bought 4 strips of window draft excluder for £1 and a letter bocx cover for 99p and also 2 sets of those metal draft excluders for the doors for 99p each instead of £16.49.
Couldn't believe I got this lot for under a fiver.
Just lined some curtains in living room and fetched some wood in for log burner as it looks and feels as though it might be quite chilly later.
I'm having some hot mince and pea curry and rice with a pitta bread for my tea later and will watch It takes Two (Strictly come Dancing)NSK Zombie # SFD 7/15 Food Bank £0/£5

It has taken a really cold tun here and I am not impressed! Trying hard to keep the heating off but my DD is prone to coughs so I can't afford to keep it off if these temps continue.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

I'm trying really hard to keep the heating off until 1 Oct for first goal and then next aim will be week by week until mid Oct and then see how it goes from there day by day.

Here in London it's been quite pleasant - still going in short sleeves during the day but need a light jacket early morning and evenings. I don't think it will last though, and I have one of my fleecy jackets to hand. Primark, £4 a couple of years ago. Another excellent buy.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

I had one of those brush letter box thingies, but the postie seemed to only push the post half way in and out so the letter box was wedged open half the time. Drove me nuts,I took it off and I made a wee mini thermal curtain to tack over the inside instead, sort of a long wide flap, works well and was free.0

I used to buy a LOT of yarn at the knitting exhibitions. They don't have them anymore though. So I am still working through my stockpile.
It is expensive to buy yarn now. But I will have a think about making a few to sell on e bay. They would just have to be with whatever colours I have though.
If you do decide to sell them you might have more success with sites like Etsy or Folksy, I would imagine you would get a better price for them, which you would want after putting so much time into making them! I haven't actyally used either site myself apart from looking at all the lovely stuff but have heard that they are pretty good.0 -
I hung my fleece lined curtains this morning, I'm really pleased with them. I used the Ikea Polarvide throws, mainly because they were white, the Irma ones are slightly cheaper but blue. My curtains were the hidden tab top types so I couldn't use curtain tape. Instead I sewed buttons along the top of the curtains, just under the tabs. The throws have a fringe and a punched hole design so I cut the fringe off and used the holes as button holes, I put a button every three holes or so. Cut the fleece to length and finished! It must have cost about £17-18 for the curtains, fleeces and buttons so not bad.
Handily the fleeces were just the right width for standard size Ikea curtains, one throw per curtain, also my windows are fairly short so I had to cut a bit off but much longer and you would have to sew two together, not sure how bulky that would end up.
Just got to get DH to fit a curtain track in the sitting room and then I can start on those curtains, job for the weekend!0
