Went to matalan yesterday and bought 13.5 tog duvets for the kids and flanelette sheets for us all.
Still no heating on, although it's quite cold and damp here today.

I've really struggled with not putting my heating on but I fear for this old house because it stood empty for over 12 months before I moved in and had got so damp. Wish we'd have a glorious hot summer so it would have dried out better

So, for the last few weeks I've turned on the heating in the evenings. I'm trying not to think about the next bill too much  but I'm also trying to put a few pounds by each week so I have a little bit saved towards it.
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

  • I am hoping we can keep the heating off until November, up until now we havent been too cold but I have noticed the drop in temp over the last few days, we will just use the coal fire if we get cold, we can not afford to get another 1000 litres of oil before christmas the last lot was three times the cost it was two years ago when we moved into the house !
  • Just walked to Matalan and back with the DSs to buy last few things we needed and spent a fortune! That was not the plan.

However i console myself with the thought that w have enough fleecy blankets now, the DSs have lovely warm dressing gowns and slipper socks (can't seem to get them to wear slippers), we have soft socks for bed, and I treated myself to a pair of those Ugg-boot-style slippers after reading about them on here this morning. This forum is dangerous!!!

But at least we'll be warm. Broke, but warm lol.

It's getting nippy at night but the heating will stay off at least until Oct 1st - our heating is all electric (panel heaters) except for the lr gas fire, and in previous years the bill has been astronomical and the heaters don't even give out much heat. So blankets, dressing gowns, shawls and hot water bottles are the new heating :D.

im planning to keep heating off till nov1st but as its gas heating and we have no other source of heat i might have to give in before then if it gets really cold problem is im very stubborn :o so we may end up walking round wrapped in quilts lol
i tried to get some duvet slippers in lidl today but there was no sign of them they must of sold out  i was looking forward to getting them and having toasty warm feet even though oh and ds both fell around laughing when i showed them the picture hmmm men.

Heating not on yet.................I almost gave in tonight and asked OH to flick the switch............but no. I've got vest/polo neck sweatshirt (my neck gets so cold) jumper and cardigan, thick tights and long skirt and once I'm on the sofa my blanket gets tucked around me. Told OH he can buy me another this year for a shawl...................lol
Hate the undressing part when I go to bed.........off it all comes and I get colder by the layer........................lol

Think we just might light a few candles tonight........makes it look warmer and I'm sure theres a bit of heat from them

Still no heating on here, apart from for an hour in the morning when I get up (4am) as it's pretty nippy at that time of day.

Would love to do more to keep us warm, but I know it'll just be the heating on at about 22degrees:eek: Both Mum & Nan are pretty image consious, so wouldn't do anything not seen as the norm:rolleyes: When I evetually get my flat ready to move into - ie when I replenish money to do it - things will be different.

We have feather bed toppers, which to be honest are too warm for me, but I over heat very easily at night. I'm sure you could fry an egg on me when I'm in bed, the bedding is boiling when I wake up:rotfl:

No heating yet...although I am wrapped in a blanket! Its getting a bit chilly and I have now mastered getting dry in under 30 seconds from the shower in a morning lol!!! brrrgggghhhh!
But I am determined that the heating is staying off for at least another month and the kids dont even seem to have noticed yet as they have flanellette pjs , flannelette sheets duvets and blankets on the beds!
