ooohhhh yes please :j I love dumplings and can get fresh beef suet here -but have resisted it so far -even though its much cheaper -i can only imagine the "furring of my arteries" that it would cause  I love the atora veg suet but To be able to make them with oil -woohooo - thankyou sooo much ..hmmm will have to try them out as soon as i get the recipe :p -any excuse for dumplings ;)

It's an American recipe so it's in cups.

1 cup flour (I use SR)
    2 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp salt
1/2 - 3/4 cup milk (I use soya milk, though you could use water or whatever liquid you normally use)
    2 tbs oil

Combine all the dry ingredients then add the wet ones to the desired texture and cook as you would normally. This will feed 4 people or 2 very hungry ones. The other day I did half the quantity for my DH and DD, and with a veggie stew it was plenty for them.

Well I know that Matalan are selling double size 13.5 tog for £8, so are Asda value ones. I hope that is cheap enough for you.

We bought one of the Asda 13.5 tog quilts at the weekend. OH has no blood in his veins and has it on the bed already.

He's definately given it the thumbs up so it must be good :T :T and only 8 quid......how good is that
How does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?

No mini duvet for me... Last year I bought four pairs of thick but light fleecy socks at £2.50 for two pairs, and boy do they keep my feet warm! I have also thick flannelette slacks and a fleecy top over one of my 'house' (ie old and past it) t-shirts.

In my stock there is also a nice fleecy dressing gown and five fleecy blankets. Fleece all over in here and I'm well kitted out for winter. :)

And old rolled up towels make perfect draught excluders for the doors... ;)

WE should all of bought shares in fleecy things.I'm sat here still in my fleecy socks PJs and dressing gown and don't want to get dressed because I won't be so warm then.I've even got OH some fleecy stuff and he's in the habit of sitting with his fleecy throw of an evening.I'm slowly turning into a human soft cuddly toy and am loving it.
  • it feels cold today and I have a warmer layer on. We`ve got to be careful of not getting ill now that the weather is changing day to day, one minute you can be cold and then too warm when the sun shines. I have made a squash and bean casserole for the main meal today and added a little chilli powder as it makes the body feel warm, so warmth from the inside on cold days. No good having cool salads just now but maybe this weekend

Fleece has so much to recommend it. It feels warm on the skin as soon as it touches it, it's soft and KEEPS you warm. It's very light, washes well, and doesn't drip dry too long and dries quickly. It's also very cheap. :D

I'm definitely a fleece enthusiast, and I have SEVEN fleecy jackets because half of my work is transport surveys, which means being out and about sometimes very early in the morning, which in the winter can be bitterly cold and I put two on. My fleece wardrobe is as follows:

7 jackets (yes, far too many but...)
    5 blankets
    1 dressing gown
    2 scarves
1 balaclava (I look like a terrorist or bank robber :o ...You can laugh if you want :D )
2 rainproof coat/jackets lined with fleece.

Most of which were dirt cheap. :T

    Antarctica here I come... :rotfl:
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
  • Last winter, I put our summer quilts under the bottom sheet on the bed and used winter weight ones on top - we were really toasty

When we were young and lived in an old house with rattling sash windows, mum bought those fluffy lambswool type underblankets. They were lovely and toasty (and helped to covered over the mattress springs a bit).

The thermal underwear are going to be with us on Saturday (the Post office still have them and I asked for a redelivery as I was not in the first time round).

I bought a value pack of 6 long johns, these are 2 for me, 2 for my DS and 2 for my DD, but as they are male long johns I expect that me and DD will have to put up with a fly opening! Who cares, as long as they keep us warm!

Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
