A hot water bottle without boiling the kettle! :j
Believe me, you'd prefer the kettle option

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -

I think I saw flannelette bedding in TJ Hughes as well...but I can't remember now
I know they were reasonably priced if I'm recalling correctly.
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
There is an option to keep feet warm in bed and it annoys the chaps and that is to wear fleecy bed socks:D I also like to put my electric blanket onto fry for a good few hours before I jump into bed although I am trying to be good and wear my bed socks instead.0

I take my hot water bottle for my feet in bed. Trouble is OH can't go near me then as he has diabetes and shouldn't put his feet on them! I get a great nights sleep though!0

My exOH and I had a good arrangement... he used to go to bed first and warm my side up, then get tipped onto the cold bit when I was ready for nod
My OH's done this every night since we married 36 years ago.He puts a hot water bottle in for me in the winter as well.On top of that I get a cup of tea in bed without fail before he goes off to work in the morning.0 -

I'm so jelousI'd be happy with just having a man to warm me up, it's the main winter prep I've been trying to achieve hehe
This has been a great thread. Already I've my draught excluders (love them) I've a camping stove from freecycle incase the electricity goes out, and I've got some flannel sheets from Dunnes Stores (NI store). Just need to get the wind up torches/lanterns/radio and I'm set!

Things are absolutely freezing here in Holland.
I was cold all day yesterday!..
But didn't want to put the heating on...
Until I found my fingers actually tingling from the cold.
I caved and switched the CH on.. only to find out it didn't work!!!
I couldn't find the problem so went to hide at my friend's house to warm up until DH came home.
He found that mice had eaten through the cable...
After a quick fix, suddenly the house started to warm up!... It was lovely!!
Still sat on the couch cuddled up under my self knitted blanket for the evening, knitting some more! My kids are yealous of my snuggly blanky and now they all want one!!
What I do is, just knit pieces from left over wool and sow them together. My blanket has all sorts of colors, from green to white, black and pink!.. It's quite funky actually and it keeps me lovely and warm.
Although when I walked across the street to my friend's house wrapped in it I did feel a bit like a beggar... :rotfl:
But I can't believe it's so cold already!!

Hi Beccatje
...and I shall now sit and get jealous at my memories of JUST how efficient Dutch central heating is......dont know if its all the same....but the mere thought of being able to walk into a cold room, switch the radiator on full blast and having to switch it back off again 30 minutes later as I was "melting". Thinking about Dutch standard doubleglazing as well......didnt matter being pretty close to a motorway...shut the window and instant dead silence!!!!
Jealous now!;)
Longs to live in more efficient country....longs to live in more efficient country.........
.....hmmm.....come to think of it...licks lips thinking of the food as well.....errr....you wouldnt have any nice Dutch recipes you would care to share with us over on our Weezl's "eating for 50p per person" thread would you please? <insert winsome smile here> (Ps: I'm vegetarian myself - so hoping...)0
